We identified what signature methods & approaches she used to get to the current place in her career & pulled out the most unique parts & positioned them in her messaging to position her as an instant authority for her ideal role. Think about a time you not only felt happy at your job, but you felt really good at it. A time you felt a level of pride that came from somewhere internal, with no need for external validation or assurance. Think about a time at work you believed, securely, that you did something good. Made someone’s day better, in a simple way. Made a positive impact on your community. I’ve always had parallel career paths. One, white collared and degreed, I’ve been sharing here for a long time. One full of pivots, disappointment, flashing moments of success and connection, but ultimate disillusionment. The other, steady and humming in the background, under a night sky, has been there to pick up the pieces. In these places, I’ve been slowly growing, and learning. Learning to celebrate myself in a new way, for the good I do for people and not the title or expectations. I’m 27 now. I’ve made a lot of poor decisions in my career. I’ve trusted the wrong people and companies. I’ve lost a lot of money. I’ve stalled and been broken down. I decided I wasn’t going to let that happen anymore. I would take ownership of my path and not flail in the general direction of vague approval. I would commit myself, professionally, to my “second” job. A role that makes me happy. One with straightforward expectations, markers of success, and surrounded by people like me. Dreamers, creatives, people-people like me. Who happen to really like food. I still have two jobs, but now it’s not two sides of a coin. Now I’m just a server, full stop. In mornings and nights. Developing my skills, knowledge, and community one table at a time. Deeply, unexpectedly, in love with service and the person that I become on the floor. I have a new job, serving lunches at an opening restaurant in Midtown. My nights are still with the Broadway crowd in Times Square. My body is tired, and my heart has never been more full. This is a new chapter. I’m happy.

I’m starting 2024 asking myself: what have I learned last year in the workplace and my current position? ➡️ First and foremost, the American hiring process and corporation's practices. It’s SO different from the Brazilian one. Age, gender, marital status, and hobbies aren’t a factor for the hiring managers. The only “me” that interests them, is the professional me: my work background, my experiences, my views, goals, and delivered results. THAT matters and it’s what is taken under consideration. ➡️ Second, it’s important to talk about your results and accomplishments and be proud of them. But equally important is to stay humble and understand the work never ends and the results and expectations will always need to be met. This one leads to my third learning. ➡️ Do not get distracted by the “noise”. The noise will always be there but it’s important to differentiate it from the real challenges to keep the focus going and keep executing! This is particularly important when you are shaping yourself to be a leader or when you’re already one. ➡️ Last, I learned that the opportunity exists. Over the past 15 years, I've been fortunate enough to secure promotions within the first two years at every role I've held. Looking back, I now realize it boiled down to three things I consistently did in those roles. 1️⃣ - Understanding what matters most I wasn’t just busy. I was strategically busy. I would always focus on the stuff that really moved the needle for my boss, my team and the company. 2️⃣ - Negotiating for adequate time and resources What worked for me was demonstrating how with the right investment and the right time, I could deliver value far beyond expectations. Over time, I became better at pushing back and building a strong case for better or more resources. 3️⃣ - Making others' lives easier along the way This is the sure foundation of building a great reputation! This approach ensured that whenever my name came up, it was always associated with positive and impactful contributions. The key is to remember that your reputation climbs the ladder before you do. It's like having a champion in meetings you're not in, where decisions about your promotion are being made. So as you move through your week, take a moment to ask yourself: ✔️ Am I zeroing in on what really counts? ✔️ Am I asking for what I need to thrive? ✔️ Am I making life better for others? We're officially in Q2. The year is flying by, and it's time for my quarterly check-in. Every few months I take inventory of my professional and personal life, level set, and work toward new goals. Here are a few things I'm reviewing on both fronts: 1. Ensure our team feels fulfilled by their work; shift priorities pending their feedback. This is ongoing but always a good reminder! 2. Review external partnerships to identify synergies and services that support better member outcomes. 3. Celebrate big and small wins across the board. 4.
