Good point! However l think these resklling is happening, sometimes even without us noticing. For example post COVID the development of online meetings, more remote working, new apps to assist remote working, digitalisation of most of our working documents and workflow etc etc.
Nevertheless AI integrated with robotics will bring in massive shift in the employment market.

The rapid rise of artificial intelligence (AI) is not just transforming existing jobs but is also giving birth to a new category of employment: new collar jobs.

While I am all for progress, perhaps we should be more comprehensive in our view and expectations of AI.
I remember the great anticipation society had regarding the arrival of computers and their expected contributions to work and our quality of life.
Just as with AI, it was said that computers would make employees more productive. Also, because workers would be able to complete their work in shorter amounts of time, they would have more free time to enjoy life. This is similar to the expectation that AI will allow for a four day work week and that much of non-creative work will be done by AI, freeing up workers to engage in more enjoyable creative work.
That expectation, however, was only partially accurate. While computers have undoubtedly enhanced employee productivity, we now have less time – not more – to enjoy life. And the reason for that is straightforward. The fundamental nature of business is to prioritize company profit over people. The bottom-line rules….
As employees were able to complete their work in less time thanks to computers, they did not benefit by receiving a shorter work week but instead were expected to do more work. Enabled by technology, today one employee does the work of two or more employees, with countless workers in industrialized societies experiencing in their lives greater levels of work-life imbalance and stress. We take our work with us wherever we go; are expected to be available beyond normal business hours; and expected to reply instantly.
While AI will certainly bring countless improvements to our lives, perhaps a more realistic and holistic view of AI’s potential impact is warranted. Perhaps we should take a bottom-line look at AI, but not from the perspective of business but instead from the more inclusive perspective of society as a whole. For example, let’s take the idea that, because AI will take over performing routine tasks, workers will enjoy focusing on creative work. I believe we need to include in that calculation additional factors….
For instance, what portion of workers will actually be capable of doing creative work? What happens to those employees who are not able? Since the pioneers of AI have already made clear that generative AI will be smarter than humans, handle greater amounts of data, and do so quicker than people, what percentage of “creative work” will actually be left for people to do?
While I am all for technological progress, perhaps society would be better off factoring in a more holistic view and expectation regarding AI’s impact. After all, in the final analysis isn’t the most important calculation regarding AI whether its total merits will out outweigh its total demerits?
And, not as I am saying, but rather as the pioneers of AI are continuously warning the world, since AI will take over and has the potential of being an existential threat to mankind, is there any other bottomline calculation more important?

What this graph is showing?
The results of a study on how artificial intelligence (AI) will affect different occupational groups. This data comes from a report published by the World Economic Forum, created in collaboration with Accenture.
Few insights:
1. The job department most impacted by AI is IT, with 73% of tasks predicted to be automated or significantly altered.
2. Finance ranks second with 70% of tasks facing a large impact from AI.
3. Customer Sales and Operations are also expected to see a majority of tasks heavily influenced by AI, at 67% and 65%, respectively.
4. HR and Marketing departments are anticipated to have more than half of their tasks impacted significantly, with 57% and 56% respectively.
5. The analysis is based on over 19,000 tasks across 867 occupations, as of September 2023, suggesting a broad and detailed study.
