Illumina proudly announces the MiSeq i100! As the Optics Illumination Lead, I've been privileged to guide a diverse team of multi-disciplinary engineers, designing & developing the module from concept to product (it's inside the instrument, trust me lol). This program spanned the globe, across many timezones, all dedicated to creating this simple, accessible, and powerful sequencer. Since jumping into this project in 2020, there has been countless hours dedicated to ensuring its success. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, we've overcome obstacles and achieved significant milestones. With all the unknowns of how life will be during the early phase of the pandemic, I had many days & nights designing and simulating models, while breadboarding in the lab during the shutdowns. From not knowing what the future holds, to seeing everything come together during the prototype phases as we worked through the challenges, it's been a remarkable journey. The MiSeq i100 in general is a testament to our team's innovation and commitment. This low-throughput sequencer will democratize access to next-generation sequencing, enabling researchers to tackle critical questions in human health. With applications in cancer, pathogen, and viral research, the MiSeq i100 has the potential to revolutionize biotech and life sciences. #biotech #dnasequencing #genomics #lifescience #illumina

#Cyto2024 is coming to an end. Here is a quick wrap-up of some of the exciting news for everyone who could not make it to the conference this year:   - The spectral cytometry market gets more diverse. Next to existing instrumentation such as the Cytek Biosciences Aurora, the Sony Biotechnology Inc. ID7000 and the BD Biosciences FACSDiscover S8, we saw several new instruments announced: the Thermo Fisher Spectral Cytometry Xenith, the Agilent Technologies Novocyte Opteon, and also from Beckman Coulter Life Sciences (among others).   - With label-free, AI driven approaches to cell-type identification and sorting based on morphological features an entirely new field is opening up, looking for example at Deepcell and ThinkCyte. At this point in time, no one really knows where this will lead, but it is definitely a space to watch!   - Various companies offering innovate and tailor-made data analysis services in the single-cell space: Ozette, TerraFlow Bio, Tercen, METAFORA biosystems, just to name a few. It'll be insteresting to watch how these platforms are adapted across the field.   - In terms of biology, we saw lots of exciting scientific talks, but to me one stands out: Adrian Liston and his team with the brilliant Oliver Burton have developed a new approach for barcoding of cells based on random genetic tags that can be detected via fluorochrome-labelled antibodies.
