At our recent community coffee morning at Loughborough Primary School Loughborough Primary School, we delved into the critical issue of school exclusions. Research indicates that a significant number of individuals in the UK prison system have experienced school exclusion, highlighting the importance of early intervention (stats from Revolving Doors). The "school-to-prison pipeline" is real. Local organisations in Lambeth and Brixton are actively addressing these challenges through joined up community initiatives and collaborative working that cares - but there is still a way to go. There is an urgent need to foster inclusive educational environments and provide support to young people at risk of exclusion as well as their families - a truly holistic approach. We must aim to break the cycle that leads from educational disengagement to involvement in the criminal justice system. Join our upcoming community coffee mornings to engage in meaningful discussions on pressing local issues and importantly, explore partnership solutions. Together, we can create a safer, more supportive community for our young people. Email: events@ecosystemcoldharbour.org to hear about the next event or other initiatives.

Although this article was based on schools in Mississippi, this seems to be an epidemic everywhere. I believe this was an issue pre-pandemic and heightened after the pandemic. What are the solutions for increasing the attendance rates to ensure that students are successful in their postsecondary opportunities? It is time to take these conversations a lot more seriously as this impacts a whole generation.
Mississippi Today published an article on the national trend of absenteeism impacting Mississippi schools. Pre-pandemic, ReImagine Prep had some of the lowest absenteeism rates in the state, but post-pandemic has had some of the highest. Dr. Jasmine Thornton, Managing Director of Family and Community Engagement, spearheaded an effort to understand the high rates and combat them. 📓📚 Check out the article below! https://lnkd.in/ePyrJe-j
