THE HARDEST THING ABOUT MEDICAL SALES..... Can be getting into Medical sales. I have said this before but it is a conversation I have with prospective candidates 2 or 3 times a week. I would say it is harder than ever as companies prioritise 'plug and play talent'. Certainly from an agency perspective! I had one of these conversations yesterday. An enthusiastic, switched on business graduate with 3 years of sales experience. They are in the top 3 sales people in their current business but are looking to follow in their parents footsteps and excel in medical sales. Even happy to relocate. "What would you do if you were in my shoes" I was asked. When I have these conversations, I try to be as helpful as possible, even if I cant offer an immediate solution. I advise about what I would do, trying to help them get their break – even though it won’t be of any financial benefit to me, it’s the decent thing to do, and it’s a small world out there! I even share a variety of companies that I know have strong graduate schemes and give people the break. Research - Become an expert and show your desire, attitude and application to learning. 4. Be realistic - Devices is the a fascinating world....if you are a fresh graduate, you might need to develop some sales acumen in an associated medical market before targeting devices. 5. Never give up - "I want this to be my career for the next 25 years" Follow that dream and make it happen! As a recruiter I am about finding solutions for my clients but I am also a career advisor. I do hope that advice resonates and helps people get that break. All of you needed that break at some point and you made it happen - my compliment and continued success to you all!
