It’s Plastic Free July! Did you know that only about 9% of the plastic ever produced has been recycled? Most of it ends up either in landfills or the environment, with somewhere between 8 million and 11 million tons of plastic entering the ocean each year. Plastic Free July is a global initiative started by the Plastic Free Foundation that aims to get more people involved in the reduction of plastic waste and plastic pollution. In the past five years, the campaign has attracted hundreds of millions of participants, and helped to avoid 1.4 billion kg of plastic waste around the world! This month, take the pledge to either avoid single-use plastic packaging, a specific single-use plastic item (i.e. bags, bottles, cups, straws, etc.), or to go entirely plastic free! You can pledge your commitment for anywhere from one day to forever. Head to their website to make your pledge and become part of the movement to reduce plastic waste this July! https://lnkd.in/ddS3NmS #PlasticFreeJuly #PlasticPollution #SingleUsePlastic #Sustainability

This month is Plastic Free July 🗓️! A month where millions around the world commit to eliminating or reducing their plastic consumption 📉 - which is no easy feat in our plastic-dominated societies. Why is plastic a problem? Plastic is an incredibly versatile and durable material - with many applications. Globally, over 400 million tons is produced each year. And some estimates show that around 50% of that is for single-use purposes 🥤- meaning once used it becomes waste. Plastic waste is entering the environment, in particular the marine environment 🌊, and causing a whole host of issues for marine life. And studies are now starting to show that plastic is affecting us too... In partnership with The Ocean Race, we are collecting data on ocean microplastic along our route towards and through the Northwest Passage - an understudied area. By taking samples, scientists can start to understand the concentrations of plastic in different areas and paint a picture of its origin. Challenges like Plastic Free July are a great way to discover how much plastic we are wasting in our daily lives, raise awareness - through talking 🗣️ with friends, family, and colleagues, and put pressure on businesses ✊🏼 to reduce plastic in their products or use alternative materials. https://lnkd.in/f6rJSUr #Plastic #PlasticFreeJuly #PlasticPollution #Ocean #OceanPlastic #MarinePlastic

Plastic Free July 🌍 Did you know that more than 400 million tonnes of plastic are produced every year, half of which are intended for single-use? Or that approx. 20 million tonnes of plastics end up in lakes, rivers and seas? And did you know that by 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish? Many plastic products contain hazardous additives that can be dangerous to our health, hazardous to animal life, and microplastics contaminate our food chain. But amazingly less than 10% of plastics are recycled – so whilst it’s a massive problem we can do something about it. This week marks the start of Plastic Free July, a global initiative challenging us all to reduce our single-use plastic (SUP) waste for an entire month. This can be at work and at home, there are many simple things such as using re-usable coffee cups, water bottles & shopping bags or buying loose produce rather than pre-packaged items. Join millions of people reducing their plastic waste - https://lnkd.in/e35BPKpn At Macro our clients are some of the most influential and visible brands in the world. As such, they have an enormous responsibility to preserve valuable resources and leave a positive legacy on their communities and the world. As their strategic and operational partner, Macro is committed to helping them to achieve both their sustainability and social value objectives, as well as our own. #PlasticFreeJuly #ResponsibleBusinss #EcoFriendly #FacilitiesManagement #FM
