Last week, I did something I never thought I could. (And passed a huge milestone in my entrepreneurial journey). I worked my first-ever stand at the B2B expo in Bracknell with the amazing team at Kaizenjoy. As an introvert, this was a big leap. Approaching strangers and starting conversations isn’t exactly my forte. But it is also a skill I really want to improve. Here’s the reality: ➡ You worry you’ll forget the facts. ➡ You feel awkward and stumble over your words. ➡ The idea of pitching strangers feels overwhelming. But stepping out of my comfort zone and forcing myself into a new situation made me feel much more prepared for my next steps. Here are the tips that worked for me on the stand: ➡ Ask about them Everyone loves to talk about their business. It’s the easiest way to open a conversation and make it relevant to them. ➡ Stay approachable Someone browsing the stand? Don’t feel bad about abandoning chats with your colleagues to speak to others (they will understand). ➡ Incorporate fun Games, badges, or props aren’t just icebreakers. They can actually help explain your work in a way people remember. ➡ Listen, don’t pitch The moment you show curiosity, the conversation naturally flows. The support I had from the Kaizenjoy team reminded me why community matters so much in business... I’m incredibly grateful to have had such talented people show me the ropes. Day one of the B2B Marketing Expo complete 🙌! Behind the bright colours and branded Skout LED keyrings, the team has worked hard to make this happen. Artwork, PPT slides, ordering merch, drafting blogs, social media posts, booking travel and accommodation, prep for our speaking slot (day two), carrying heavy boxes back and forth,... the list goes on.
