Do you know the difference between a medical copywriter and a medical content writer? It sounds simple but these two concepts often get muddled and intertwined in our industry of medical writing. (I have to admit it took me some time to separate the two in my mind and delivery when I first started working as a medical writer). One writer can do both, but we have to wear very different hats when we do. A medical copywriter crafts promotional material for healthcare professionals, customers and organisations. Our job is to use words, phrases and ideas to persuade a potential customer or client to take a particular action such as purchasing a product or service. A medical content writer focuses on creating compelling, informative educational content for healthcare professionals, organisations, patients and caregivers. When wearing this hat, our job is to provide well-written, valuable, useful information on a specific healthcare topic. In both cases our work should always be ethical and evidence-based. The writer has done a pretty bad job. Your website has misleading information. Too many mistakes. This is what I told a prospect sometime back, while doing my regular cold outreach. Prospect- Please point out the mistakes. Me- Sure, here are 50+ mistakes in just your blogs. Prospect- Will you clean up the charge? Me- Sure, yes. These are my charges. Prospect- That's a lot to spend on writer. We paid below 0.70ppw to our writer Me- Well you can see the work they did for that amount. In noway do I justify this behavior by a writer. If you signed up for low prices, you have to give them quality work only. You owe it to them. But, again this doesn't justify underpaying writers. If things are expensive for you, they are also expensive for the writer. P. S. - I'm taking in clients for the month of August 2024. I just got rejected by a company looking for an associate editor. Here are the requirements: Requirements: 1. Minimum of 2 or 3 years of experience in copy editing or related editorial roles. - I have more than 20 years of editing experience under my belt, as an academic editor, newspaper editor, content editor, proofreader, and QA officer. 2. Strong command of the English language, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation. - Like, duh? With more than 20 years of experience, do they actually think I don't know these things? I'm also well-versed in CMoS, AP, and APA styles. 3. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and digital publishing tools. - I've been a content producer, content manager, and content editor at one time or another. 4. Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. - I've been an editor, writer, TV show producer, and concert producer all at the same time. Multiple projects are a piece of cake. 5. A deep understanding of the organization's tone, audience, and brand guidelines. - Again, this is part of my experience as an editor and writer in several industries. 6. Ability to work independently and as a part of a team. - Isn't this a given? So where exactly did I not meet part of the requirements?
