New case study! The Foundry in Eastbourne provided vital homes in partnership with Eastbourne Borough Council. This stunning 12-home development in Langney Road features eight one-bedroom homes and four two-bedroom homes for key workers and those on the housing register. Completed in March 2022, the project has transformed a derelict row of shops into a development which enhances the area. The constrained site would have been almost impossible to develop with traditional construction methods, but modular held the key to unlocking this site for vital housing. Dick Shone, managing director, said: “At Boutique Modern, we are experts in designing stunning, contemporary modular homes that uniquely address the challenges of hard-to-access sites, something traditional construction methods often fail to achieve. “This approach is more than just innovative design; it's a viable solution to the national housing shortage. By unlocking the potential of thousands of difficult-to-develop sites across the country, we're opening new avenues to address this critical issue.” The Foundry is a perfect example of why we believe adopting a modular approach presents an opportunity to harness untapped potential within hard to access brownfield sites across the UK. Would you like to join our growing pool of architect partners? One of our partners includes Mohsin Cooper Architecture & Planning and we’re keen to team up with more architects to deliver their vision with our flexible and expert modular build system. We recently caught up with Abe Mohsin, director of Mohsin Cooper, to find out more about his favourite buildings, solutions for the housing shortage, the reimagining of our towns and cities and why modular will play a vital role in delivering homes. Abe said: "I’ve always been impressed by Boutique Modern’s ethos, goals and social vision, which align closely with what we believe in here at Mohsin Cooper. “I believe volumetric modular is an important part of the housing crisis solution – and believe it’s equally important to find a solution which is sustainable, efficient and minimises waste.” To find out more about working with us and to read the full Q&A with Mohsin Cooper visit our website here: https://lnkd.in/ekNq4Se3 Dick Shone Lucas Shone #construction #AffordableHousing

Building a sustainable future — on land and at sea. At Boutique Modern we're committed to creating beautiful, eco-friendly places for communities to thrive — both through the homes we build and the actions we take. Last week our team took time out to complete another company-wide beach clean at a local beach in Seaford, collecting 20 bags of rubbish. This clean-up is just one step in our ongoing journey to protect the planet, ensuring the same level of care and quality we bring to our housing designs is reflected in how we treat the world around us. We’re encouraged by the positive tone of this House of Lords debate and the constructive response from the minister. It's reassuring to see that modern methods of construction (MMC) are being recognised at the highest levels of government as a key component in addressing the UK’s housing challenges. Our commitment remains focused on the regeneration of brownfield sites across the country. We believe this is the most sustainable and efficient starting point, rather than navigating the complexities of converting green belt or grey belt land. By prioritising the revitalisation of these sites, we can make a real impact on housing supply without the need for extensive legislative changes. It's concerning to hear talk of axing green rules in favour of speeding up housebuilding, especially when there are thousands of brownfield sites sitting unused across the country. These sites often present a challenge for traditional construction methods but are perfectly suited to modern methods of construction (MMC). While there are certainly issues with the current planning system, we firmly believe that tackling brownfield sites offers a clear path forward. The sooner these sites are prioritised, the sooner we can address the housing crisis without sacrificing the environment. Modular builds take less time on site than traditional methods and controlled factory production reduces the risk of nutrient pollution on-site, providing an obvious and immediate solution. We believe what is needed is for central Government to empower local authorities to prioritise brownfield sites and push them through the planning process. With sustainable construction methods like ours readily available, there's no reason why we should be choosing between building homes and protecting the environment. As a B Corp, we are committed to sustainable practices, and we’d hate to see the environment take a hit when more responsible options are right in front of us. https://lnkd.in/e49e-hRv #modular #housing #affordablehousing
