A Tragedy Beyond Words-Standing with Los Angeles The devastating wildfires in Los Angeles have left entire neighbourhoods reduced to ash, tens of thousands displaced, and countless families mourning unimaginable losses. These fires have tragically claimed at least 10 lives and destroyed thousands of homes and businesses. As investigators work tirelessly to uncover the cause—whether arson, utility line sparks, or another source—the sheer scale of the devastation demands reflection. In the face of this tragedy, my heart goes out to everyone affected. To those who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods. To the firefighters, first responders, and volunteers who continue to risk their lives: your bravery is highly appreciated. There is an urgent need for better preparedness, investment in infrastructure safety, and sustainable practices to mitigate such disasters in the future. Let us stand together, extend our support, and hold space for healing. #LosAngelesFires #WildfireRelief #Solidarity

YMCAs help fight food insecurity in communities across North Carolina. In the wake of #HurricaneHelene, YMCA of Western North Carolina has continued its mobile markets to support anyone needing access to food. #ForAll #HealthyLiving
As we move into the holiday season, many of our friends and neighbors will struggle to put food on the table. Especially in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. This is where our YMCA of WNC Community Health mobile food markets come in. The Y serves hundreds of families in Buncombe, Henderson, McDowell, Haywood, and Madison counties each month at dozens of locations. Hear from some of these local residents below. This is a great way to gain experience and contacts in the early stages of moving to a conservation or land-management career.
As part of a Cotswold District Council and Gloucestershire Rural Community Council (GRCC) initiative we are seeking to recruit flood wardens across each of the eight wards of Cirencester. Flood Wardens play a key role, working with their local town or parish council to help their community prepare for, respond to and recover from flooding. Flood Wardens are volunteers who help ensure that flood warnings and messages about being prepared, reach the local community. They are an important conduit between the community and the Town Council, providing invaluable information about the situation on the ground, so that the emergency response can be planned appropriately. If you are interested in volunteering please e-mail our land and property team at: landandproperty@cirencester.gov.uk
