Stories are central to how we understand information and find entertainment. More and more we're seeing organizations use stories to show what is important to them and provide entertainment. I'm going to post about 7 structures (thank you to Christopher Booker) of common stories we all know. I'm confident every single company has at least one story that could fit into each structure. The first is one of the most popular types of stories - overcoming the monster. This involves a hero or protagonist embarking on a journey to defeat an evil or force that's threatening their life or way of being. Think: Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc. We can all connect to this format as the "monster" in the story is interchangeable with our problems/hurdles. Back in my junior year, fueled by a lifelong love of the Muppets 🐸 🐻 🐷, I convinced three friends to join me in a particularly interesting audition for our school's annual variety show. Our song of choice? "The Rhyming Song" (https://lnkd.in/emtu6Rfu), a completely nonsensical masterpiece where, well, nothing actually rhymes 🤷♀️ If my memory serves, our director stopped us and asked... "What was thaaat???" But we spent weeks talking about it, laughing and "rehearsing." It was a testament to the power of shared passion, camaraderie, and, let's be honest, embracing the absurd. Speaking of Muppet magic, who else has watched the new documentary "Jim Henson: Idea Man" on Disney+? It's a masterclass in creativity, perseverance, and building a phenomenal team. One thing that truly struck me was Henson's ability to attract a cast of wildly talented, wonderfully weird individuals who shared his vision 👯 🛀 🤥 So in honor of the new documentary and my own Muppet Mania here are a few Henson-inspired takeaways to cultivate a strong team culture: 1️⃣ Embrace the Oddballs (I'm not just saying this because I am one...): Look for people who bring unique perspectives and a touch of the unexpected. 2️⃣ Shared Passion is Power: Build a team around a common goal that excites everyone. 3️⃣ Laughter is the Best Stress Reliever: Don't be afraid to have fun and find humor in the journey.
