The Power of Teamwork in Hospitality In the fast-paced world of hospitality, teamwork is the glue that holds everything together. From delivering top-notch guest experiences to efficient operations, a collaborative team is indispensable. Clear communication, adaptability, and problem-solving skills are amplified when individuals work together, ensuring a seamless and positive environment. Ultimately, the success of a hotel relies on the strength of its team, creating a consistent brand image, boosting morale, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. In hospitality, teamwork isn't just a choice – it's the key to excellence. Equally important, your team needs to feel they are a team, that the "the whole is greater than sum of its parts". When members of your team can openly congratulate exceptional individual efforts or achievements of a team member, or help them to get back together when they fall out of line, then you do have a great team. #hospitality #safari

Been saying this in my post for some months on hotel and restaurants operations. And I concur with Scott, the unfortunate situation in the industry is that far too many lower management have been promoted to “fit the need` of the operation without exposure to the actual floor, all sanctioned by HR. In addition, the constant increase of admin (which should be reviewed annually) has led to managers being stuck in the office, and they are simply not benefiting from operational exposure. Add to this management covering shifts of missing staff and exhaustion and burnout becomes a regular element of the operation. The build up of pressure has led to so many quite capable and good people to leave the industry. If we insist on promoting those who are not ready, then we must commit to mentoring and support to ensure their success.

The phrase "But can they do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke?" is a well known football related expression that is often used in the context of discussing the abilities of football players or teams. The question is typically used to challenge the skill or effectiveness of a player or team by suggesting that their true abilities may be called into question when facing adverse weather conditions or when playing on a difficult pitch. Therefore, when someone asks, "But can they do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke?" they are essentially questioning whether a player or team can perform well under tough circumstances, implying that their skills may not be as effective in adverse conditions compared to more favorable ones. The same goes for hotel General Managers. Many of us are able to do well in a properly built hotels or resorts in great locations with sufficient funds but put us in a secluded resort built by a calculative Chinaman in a God forsaken place, far away from the comforts of big towns, most of us, including myself, will find it difficult to replicate our success.
