Yesterday we celebrated 10 years in business. Ten years is a long time in construction. RJ Drylining began with one simple aim: to do and be better than what we’d experienced on the tools. Back then, we were a small team of fixers working for companies that paid late, or not at all. As our reputation for hard work grew, the opportunity to take on a direct labour-only project arose, which was seized with both hands. That led to a supply-and-fit job on The Ivy restaurant at Tower Bridge, opening the door to delivering projects for the new chain of Ivy restaurants across the UK and other high-end fit-outs. As the jobs got bigger, so did the challenges. Practical work was the founding team’s bread and butter, but bigger jobs brought bigger knocks. In the weeks leading up to one Christmas, a new truck was stolen, the insurance refused to pay out, and to top it all off, companies that touted virtues in person folded without payment. It was a tough lesson, but it strengthened our commitment: no one who works for us would ever have to worry about their livelihood or be denied what they’re owed. That could have been where the story ended. The fair-weather team moved on, but the core team pulled together, dug deep, and carried on. The company bounced back, found better clients, delivered larger projects, grew the site and office team, and moved from a container to a professional office. Today, we have a loyal team, strong supplier relationships, and deliver quality projects for quality clients. From the very start, our focus has been on raising the standards: paying on time, and doing what we say we’ll do. Construction is full of surprises but the key is to persevere, adapt, and never lose sight of the human element that underpins it all. On that note, we’d like to sincerely thank everyone who has made this possible. Here’s to another 10 years of working together.
