Our "Pay Attention to Your Pee" campaign for The Marie Keating Foundation aims to reframe urination changes as important health signals. By highlighting the symptoms we can help cut the embarrassment and encourage early detection and action. The campaign OOH employs creative typography that takes on the characteristics of the symptoms of prostate cancers - delivering the message in a visually striking way. Designed to fuel men with the individual symptoms and information they need to have discussions and spread awareness. Pay attention to your pee. It could save your life.

It’s #menshealthweek which raises awareness of the health issues that affect men disproportionately and focuses on getting men to become more aware of health problems they may have or could develop and gain the courage to do something about it. More at https://lnkd.in/dHBZpX8 and more at https://lnkd.in/e8SpvpAc Men don't talk, we're told. So for Men's Health Week 2024, men are being encouraged to share their stories. Men should take their lead from King Charles who, earlier this year, shared that he had a problem with an enlarged prostate. On the day after his announcement, there were 16,410 visits to the relevant National Health Service website page compared with 1,414 visits the previous day. Prostate Cancer UK saw an almost doubling in the number of users of its online risk checker. This goes to show the difference that honest sharing can make. Most people won't have same impact as the King - for a while in the UK media, it was difficult to avoid urologists talking about the prostate and the things that can go wrong with it - but if there is a taboo about men's talking, well, the best way to beat a taboo is to ignore it. You can now order the new manual 'P For Prostate' https://lnkd.in/ekYnftGF looking at all aspects of the prostate - from where it is and what it does through to various problems it can cause for men. But it's not just prostates men should be talking about. Whatever's going on with your health, sharing it may well help you and, by putting a difficult topic on the agenda, it will certainly help others.

If you are of AS, AC, SS, or SC Genotype, you should marry someone of AA genotype. Right. It can truly be frustrating leaving potential spouses because of genotype incompatibility, especially when you have to consider many factors. However, going ahead to marry someone whose genotype is not compatible with yours can lead to more consequences in which love wouldn't matter at that point. It can lead to giving birth to sickle cell diseased children who go through excruciating pain; the pain that could have been avoided. What is sickle cell disease like? Follow me. A red blood cell is a component of blood that has a biconcave or disc shape. It has haemoglobin which facilitates the transport of oxygen around the body. But in sickle cell patients, these red blood cells have the shape of a sickle because of the abnormality in their hemoglobin. That is why those red blood cells are not able to move freely through the blood vessels (the channels that carry blood throughout your body) like a normal one. And can result in conditions like anemia, severe pain, and others. So what should you do? You might have checked your genotype before but please, confirm again in a standard hospital. My Fellow Scientists, let's ensure we adhere to quality controls that would ensure the genotype result is error-free. We can't afford to make mistakes. Yesterday was World Sickle Cell Day. I join the world to celebrate the warriors. You face different challenges and you still stay strong. You are stronger than you think. ❤️ #hanifatbello #biomedicalscientist #worldsicklecellday

Osteoarthritis🦴 is next in our Women’s Health Awareness series for the month of May. #Osteoarthritis, which is a degenerative joint disease, is the most common type of arthritis. It is more common in older people and involves a breakdown of tissues in the joints. Symptoms include joint pain and stiffness. The most commonly affected joints are the hands, knees, hips, neck and the lower back. Women are more likely than men to have osteoarthritis, especially after age 50. For many women, it develops after menopause. We highlight Dr. Johanne Martel-Pelletier and her team’s pioneering research in uncovering many unknown facets of this disease, specifically in the development of biomarkers for osteoarthritis 🔬. Her recent study (https://lnkd.in/e-9cURAq) used mass spectrometry to identify biomarkers in serum. Another study from her group (https://lnkd.in/eptqxmJz) analyzes Magnetic Resonance Imaging (#MRI) in addition to fluid biomarkers to assess disease status. This combined approach would enable an early detection and thereby prevent further deterioration of bone and cartilage. As we celebrate Women’s Health Awareness Month 👩🔬, let's raise awareness about osteoarthritis and support the advancements in research led by women in this field. #WomensHealth #OsteoarthritisAwareness #MolecularImaging #Empowerment
