The West- African nation of Sengegal commences crude oil exports as its first ever cargo is loaded from its  flagship Sangomar oil project. The cargo was loaded onboard the Maran Poseidon tanker according to LSEG ship-tracking data.   The Sangomar Field Development Phase 1 which is operated by Australia’s Woodside Energy is a deepwater project with a nameplate capacity of 100,000 barrels/day which will be exported via the Leopold Sedar Senghor FPSO facility.   Later this year Senegal is also to begin LNG exports from its Joint -Tortue FLNG project with Mauraitanina which is operated by UK headquarted BP.   With this two new oil and gas projects Senegal is set to become a major energy exporter this decade. For those interested in a bit of history the FPSO which is named after Leopold Sedar Senghor the first President of Senegal following its independence from Senegal in 1960. AFRICA LNG: Commercial operations of the Phase 1 of the 2.3mtpa BP-operated Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) floating LNG project offshore Mauritania and Senegal not expected to start until the summer of 2024 at the very earliest. Meanwhile, a final investment decision on the Phase 2 of the project, originally planned for this year, is still a long way off as the partners struggle to agree a concept for the project with the Senegalese and Mauritanian governments. A source close to the matter expects little progress on Phase 2 before presidential elections in both countries, which are due to take place in February for Senegal and in June for Mauritania. 🇪🇬 🚢 Egypt's Options Narrow on LNG Imports With time fast running out ahead of the summer, Egypt may have secured the Höegh Gallant to serve at its Ain Sokhna import terminal once again as it struggles with its second gas crunch in a decade. On July 1, 2024, the first crude cargo from Woodside's Sangomar oil project began loading. The Greek-flagged Maran Poseidon tanker, with a capacity of 1.06 million barrels, arrived at the export terminal, marking a historic moment for Senegal. The $5.2 billion Sangomar development highlights Senegal's growing role in the energy sector. Woodside, the project operator, holds an 82% stake, while state-owned Petrosen owns 18%. Oil is being loaded from the Leopold Sedar Senghor FPSO vessel, located 100 km off Dakar's coast. This milestone also comes as Senegal prepares for the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim LNG project with BP, which is expected to start later this year. Petrosen's Thierno Ly stated, "The first oil from the Sangomar field marks a new era for our industry, economy, and people. EGYPT LNG: Egypt is set to take delivery of a floating, storage and regasification unit (FSRU) in the coming days, enabling the North African country to start directing LNG imports as it faces its second gas supply crunch in a decade. The Hoegh Galleon FSRU will receive cool down volumes in Spain before continuing it's journey towards Egypt's Ain Sukhna import terminal in the Gulf of Suez, market sources with knowledge on the matter told Energy Intelligence. Egas secured the vessel earlier this month for the period from June 2024 to February 2026. Meanwhile, Egas is said to be seeking an LNG cargo for early June delivery via Jordan, as Egypt enters its peak summer period for gas demand. Egypt resumes LNG imports as the Hoegh’ Galleon tanker arrives at Ain Sukhna with a cargo reloaded from Sagunto, Spain which was recently chartered by state-owned EGAS from Hoegh. This comes as Egypt's current gas imbalance worsens amid declining production from the Zohr field due to water breakthrough issues. The FSRU will help the Arab- Nation to meet an expected heavy power demand for cooling this summer. Earlier this month state-owned EGAS tendered for around 17 cargoes. Over the last decade, Egypt has gone through LNG cycles of feast and famine. Is Egypt back in a cycle of LNG famine for now? According to Hoegh, the term charterer of the Hoegh Galleon the tanker will be docked in Egypt for an interim period of 20 months from June 2024 to February 2026, after which it is expected to be redeployed to AIE’s LNG terminal currently under construction at Port Kembla, Australia. #egypt #lng #ttf #spain #natgas

Woodside has extracted the first barrel of oil from the Sangomar field off the coast of Senegal, marking the safe completion of the country's first offshore oil project. This first phase includes the FPSO Léopold Sédar Senghor, named after Senegal's president, moored around 100 kilometers off the Senegalese coast. The vessel has a storage capacity of 1.3 million barrels. An estimated 50 billion cubic feet of gas unveiled by Kosmos Energy near #Mauritania coastal areas. A massive gas field stockpiled at 2,500 meters under the sea level. Actually there are a wide oil reserves between Mauritania and #Senegal which attract #oil majors in the region. Forecast suggests Senegal will provide 100,000 barrels per day in terms of oil production and will be a significant #gas supplier in years ahead. The Republic of the Congo is set to begin LNG exports by the end of this year, as the Tango FLNG tanker arrives Pointe- Noire of the Gulf of Guinea coast. The Tango FLNG will be moored as the floating production vessel for the Congo floating LNG project for the next twenty years. The Tango FLNG was redeployed from Argentina after the South-American nation ceased LNG exports in November 2020 This adds another LNG project to Sub-Saharan Africa which is fast becoming an LNG export hub with existing projects in Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Angola, Mozambique and another two currently under construction in Mauritania/Senegal and Gabon according to infrastructure data collated by the LSEG’s Global LNG team. Eni is expected to lift the entire volumes from the project on a tolling basis for the 20 year duration which will have a capacity of 3 million tonnes per annum. Egypt is set to resume LNG imports this summer as the Hoegh’ Galleon which was recently chartered by state-owned EGAS sails towards the Arab nation. This comes as Egypt's current gas imbalance worsens amid declining production from the Zohr field due to water breakthrough issues.   The Hoegh Galleon is due to arrive in Egypt in early June according to LSEG ship-tracking data. The tanker will arrive in Egypt via the long way round through the Cape of Good Hope rather than via the Red Sea as LNG shipping through the route has remained suspended since early January   According to Hoegh, the term charterer of the Hoegh Galleon the tanker will be docked in Egypt for an interim period of June 2024 to February 2026, after which it is expected to be redeployed to AIE’s LNG terminal currently under construction at Port Kembla, Australia.   https://lnkd.in/gkMMYStB #egypt #ttf #natgas #lng #lseg #energy #australia
