The identification of key genes and pathways, including APOE, CLU, and SREBF1, has shed light on the underlying pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. Notably, oligodendrocytes exhibit heightened susceptibility to the disease's effects. The integration of multi-omic datasets is playing a pivotal role in building a comprehensive understanding of Alzheimer's, providing a basis for pioneering therapeutic approaches. A notable study by Samuel Morabito, et al. on Nature Genetics “Single-nucleus chromatin accessibility and transcriptomic characterization of Alzheimer’s disease”. #alzheimers #AD #dementia #snRNA #BioTuring Read the publication here: https://lnkd.in/gkf4cJvn Explore the dataset on Talk2Data now: https://lnkd.in/gz_av8P6

Today, on #WorldParkinsonsDay, and throughout #ParkinsonsAwarenessMonth, we stand in solidarity with the Parkinson's community and shine a light on the power of research and innovation in the fight against this complex neurological disorder. Recent studies, like the one published in the Journal of Parkinson's Disease, highlight the potential of #metabolomics to uncover new insights into #Parkinsonsdisease: https://bit.ly/3PAYcxa. Metabolomics enables us to analyze small molecules in the body, providing valuable clues about disease mechanisms, progression, and potential treatment targets. We're also proud to collaborate with leading research institutions, like the Oxford Parkinson's Disease Centre https://bit.ly/3AiFUrQ and the Tracking Parkinson's Study https://bit.ly/3UZ5wTy, to advance metabolomics research in Parkinson's disease. Through these partnerships, we're leveraging the power of metabolomics to: 🔬 Explore novel biomarkers for early diagnosis and disease monitoring. 🧬 Uncover metabolic pathways implicated in Parkinson's disease progression. 💊 Identify new therapeutic targets and personalized treatment strategies. Together, we're committed to driving innovation and making meaningful strides toward improving the lives of individuals living with Parkinson's disease. Let's raise awareness, advocate for research, and support those affected by Parkinson's. #ParkinsonsResearch #multiomics #omics #biomarkers #biomarkerdiscovery #phenotype #phenotyping

Could understanding pythons’ eating habits help to tackle heart disease? 🐍 It is common knowledge that pythons are able to swallow whole meals bigger than their own body mass - but understanding their cardiac function could be the key to developing medication for heart conditions in humans. Results appearing in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences last month revealed new insight into how heart remodelling takes place within pythons, with micro-imaging results indicating that the reptiles undergo changes to gene expression after feeding. Understanding the molecular pathways behind this heart reshaping may lead to the key developments in treating human cardiovascular diseases. With a stiff and fibrous heart characteristic of many cardiac diseases, this research could lead to the development of treatment to make stiff hearts softer and improve their function. 🫀 Read more on this fascinating study, conducted by Leslie Leinwand’s group at the University of Colorado, via the link in comments. #CardiovascularResearch #BiomedicalInnovation #HeartHealth #LifeSciences #GeneExpression #HlxLifeSciences

Despite significant progress in the field of neurodegenerative disease (NGD), researchers believe a comprehensive biomarker panel could not only accelerate research and the development of new treatments, but also offer tools for more effective disease monitoring and management. Resonant is currently working on filling this gap, developing tests for Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, and other neurodegenerative conditions with the ultimate goal of creating a more comprehensive NGD panel. Visit resonantdx.com to join our waitlist or receive updates on our developing technology. #neurodegenerativedisease #diagnostics #epigenetics #diseaseprevention #brainhealth

🌟 Part Three of Our Parkinson's Research Series 🌟 As we progress through #ParkinsonsAwarenessMonth, today, Elpida Tsika will explain how AC Immune is developing Morphomer small molecules that specifically target alpha-synuclein, the hallmark of Parkinson's pathology. These innovative agents are designed to reduce alpha-synuclein accumulation within cells, addressing a fundamental cause of the disease's progression. By inhibiting the aggregation as well as preventing the spread of toxic protein aggregates, our compounds offer new hope in slowing, and potentially halting #ParkinsonsDisease symptoms. We believe these small molecules could change the landscape of treatment for Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative diseases caused by alpha-synuclein. For an in-depth look at our research and detailed data, follow the link to access Elpida’s full AD/PD 2024 presentation: 🔗https://lnkd.in/eS7rGNqN #ParkinsonsAwareness #NeurodegenerativeDiseases #PrecisionMedicine

Millions of people in the United States are affected by neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. As our population ages, these diseases become more common and place an increased burden on medical systems and caregivers. The ASU-Banner Neurodegenerative Disease Research Center advances the discovery of disease mechanisms, risk factors, biomarkers, and drugs for the understanding, detection, tracking, treatment and prevention of neurodegenerative diseases. The center is a partnership between Banner Health and Arizona State University. https://lnkd.in/g4sXkjU2 #ASUResearch #BannerHealth #Neurodegenerative

Just as you replace broken appliances in your home, your cells also get rid of malfunctioning equipment to keep everything working smoothly. In some neurological diseases, neurons die because they can't remove defective molecules. Research from #NIH_IRP suggests that a gene responsible for helping cells dispose of malfunctioning proteins may play a crucial role in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (#ALS), a disease caused by the death of neurons that help our bodies move.
