Energy Efficiency through Retrofitting ..🏠 ✨ Retrofitting old buildings to improve energy efficiency is essential for reaching sustainability goals, but it comes with significant challenges. One notable success story is Germany’s EnerPHit project, which retrofits buildings to meet strict Passivhaus standards. By implementing top-notch insulation, triple-glazed windows, and advanced heat recovery systems, EnerPHit has cut energy use by up to 90% according to a report by The International Passive House Association (iPHA). This impressive outcome highlights the potential of retrofitting to transform older buildings into energy-efficient structures. Another innovative approach can be found in the Netherlands with the Energiesprong project. This initiative focuses on retrofitting social housing quickly by using prefabricated panels and renewable energy technologies. Energiesprong has successfully reduced both energy costs and emissions, demonstrating that large-scale retrofitting can be efficient and effective. While scaling up presents challenges, the project's success highlights the potential for rapid and impactful retrofits. These examples demonstrate that despite the hurdles of cost and technical complexity, retrofitting can be highly effective. Traditional path to 'green building': ✅ Install solar panels ✅ Add smart building controls ✅ Get green certification Reality check: 🤔 Your building's construction created emissions 🤔 Your tenants' activities create emissions 🤔 Even your renewable energy sources created emissions Our installation in Vantaa, Finland, showed us what's possible: Our system takes in air with 600 ppm of CO2 and releases it at 150 ppm, which is far cleaner than outdoor air (420 ppm). The building isn't just reducing emissions, but actively cleaning the city's air.
