This year’s #ESCCongress in Amsterdam has concluded and I am proud of how we at Novartis continues to contribute to advance the science and to find solutions to the largest health care challenge in modern society: cardiovascular disease.    A real eyeopener was the results of the report "Unveiling of the economic burden of cardiovascular disease in the European Union’s 27 member states", by ESC and Oxford University, showing that the price tag on cardiovascular disease in Europe is higher than entire EU budget. CVD costs amounted to a staggering €282 billion across the EU member states, in the year 2021, and Cardiovascular disease stands as a leading cause of morbidity and mortality within the EU.   The Nordic countries are no exception, as the burden of CVD is growing for patients, healthcare, and the society. Now to the good news: a majority of CVD events are preventable, meaning together we can break the trend! By increasing preventive measures, not only can we reduce the suffering for CVD, but the escalation of direct and indirect costs for CVD can be stopped.   To make an impact, we need to work together. With the complexity of science, human behaviors and healthcare systems, all of us needs to chip in, to be humble and open minded, to find a shared goal and collaborate to achieve a different outcome than the one that we currently find ourselves in. Liver fibrosis is a condition in which the liver becomes scarred. This scarring can be caused by a number of factors, including: 🔵 Alcohol abuse: Long-term alcohol abuse is a major cause of liver fibrosis. 🔵 Viral hepatitis: Hepatitis B and C can cause liver fibrosis over time. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD): NAFLD is a condition in which fat builds up in the liver. This can lead to liver fibrosis in some people. 🔵 Autoimmune hepatitis: This is an autoimmune disease that attacks the liver. It can cause liver fibrosis over time. 🔵 Metabolic syndrome: This condition is a group of risk factors that increase the chances of developing heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes.
