Rakib Uddin Ahmed, former Brigadier General, Bangladesh Army, joins BRAC as the Director of Operations. He brings over thirty-five years of extensive experience in command, control, and management across diverse sectors. Ahmed’s interest in joining BRAC sparked when he was in Democratic Republic of Congo during his service in the UN Peacekeeping Mission. He encountered a boy from Rwanda who worked in BRAC’s base there. The boy identified Ahmed as a Bangladeshi national and reached out to him to express his excitement about meeting someone from the country where BRAC originated from. “By joining BRAC, I can leverage my experience and contribute to an organisation that is making a profound impact on the ground,” - Rakib Uddin Ahmed. We are excited to welcome a new leader who possesses the wealth of experience in commanding multinational operations and will advance our mission of empowering communities worldwide.

Dr Md Jafar Uddin, former Senior Secretary at the Ministry of Commerce, joins BRAC as a Senior Advisor, Regulatory Affairs. He brings notable experience from his career in public service and academia, holding leadership roles in various government and international organisations. Dr Ahmed was always a part of the BRAC family, having worked here before. Inspired by BRAC’s values, he decided to rejoin the organisation to contribute to BRAC's mission of empowering communities and driving sustainable development. “It’s vital to build an ecosystem of support for regulatory affairs and policy-making, and you can't do that without effective communication and collaboration,” - Dr Jafar Uddin. We are excited to welcome a leader who truly believes in BRAC’s mission.

2 million people across Bangladesh have been affected by the third wave of flooding since May this year, leaving hundreds of thousands stranded with limited access to food and safe water.
