NIHR-funded research is showing how a Clean Air Zone in Bradford is reducing pollution-related ill health and easing the strain on NHS resources. Professor Rosie McEachan commented: “Although the research is still underway, our early results are encouraging. Well charging people on low incomes to drive vehicles to work definitely doesn't help inequalities. That is certain. Also small business is probably feeling it and this may lead to them having fewer jobs available from having charges they wouldn't normally have had. I'm all for a greener future, but hitting residents constantly with extra charges that impact their day to day lives I do not feel is the way to go about it.
