Congressman Torres continues to be a beacon of moral clarity and an inspiration. He stands out among my Democratic Party, too many of whom (mainly on the progressive end) express morally and socially misguided views. Those who are truly pro-Palestinian must be anti-Hamas. Those who are truly pro-Lebanese must be anti-Hezbollah. Those who are truly pro-Afghan must be anti-Taliban. Those who are truly pro-Iranian must be anti-Iranian regime. Radical Islamist ideology (not Israel) is responsible for the oppressed existence of the citizens in those places. Israel is fighting the radical Islamist militants on multiple fronts. There will be peace in the Middle East and better lives for Palestinians and other Arab Muslims when the Islamist regimes change, not when Israel stops “oppressing” them. Israel will stop fighting against them (and collateral civilian deaths will cease) when they stop calling for the total destruction of Israel and attacking Israel. I implore my fellow citizens and especially all fellow Democrats to recognize and acknowledge that reality.
Within Our Lifetime (WOL) is calling on its followers to “flood NYC for Palestine” on 10/7. The word choice here is meant to evoke ‘the Al-Aqsa Flood,’ which is Hamas’ term for October 7th. WOL, SJP and JVP feel no shame in celebrating the deadliest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust; no shame in celebrating the kidnapping of infants and toddlers; no shame in celebrating the abduction of aging Holocaust and Farhoud survivors: no shame in celebrating the barbaric murder, maiming, and mutilation of innocent civilians and children. The decent among us must never stop shaming the shameful and shameless apologists for October 7th. The fate of our civilization depends on the triumph of moral clarity over moral confusion.

What if it were your child? What if it was your country? What if the bad guys were hiding behind children Is there any moral justification for the devastation of an entire population, half of whom are children? I can tell you now, there is absolutely 𝐍𝐎 persuasive argument for it. But maybe we do need to ask questions: ◼ What if your country had detailed plans on an attack on your family and chose to do nothing? ◼ What if they had been warned that oppressing an entire group of people would make you unsafe but continued to do so anyway? ◼ What if in their quest for vengeance, they killed your loved one instead? ◼ What if they’re being told that they will not achieve peace through military means, but choose to ignore that as well? ◼ What if they refused to listen to the victims of their inaction, who are begging for peace? ◼ What if they refused to negotiate to bring home your loved ones? What if??? These questions are not just hypothetical. History has taught us time and again: oppression breeds despair, and despair knows no bounds. That the path to lasting peace is never paved with weapons. And that in the cycle of revenge, there are no winners, only shared tragedies. Each cry for peace that is ignored is a step further away from the world we dream of for our children.

My latest video about slavery - admittedly a bit of a slog - has garnered more views on this platform and YouTube than any of the others on my channel, 'Quartermaine'. The title 'Slaver Empire?' (note the question mark) triggered people. I enjoy the vituperative comments (on YouTube); it's fun to despatch them and then remove and report the authors for abuse. I really enjoy feedback, even if it's critical, but abuse? Fun, it may be for me, but insults won't get published. The video refers to a chapter in my book, 'Rivers of Aid: Stories from the Poor Countries', a semi-fictional set of short stories about aspects of the humanitarian aid world and international development industry. The chapter, 'Rice Children', is about slavery and an awful real-world incident of which I had direct experience in Cambodia. The chapter is FACT, not fiction. The protagonist, a paedophile and purveyor of photo images and possibly involvement in trafficking, is safely in jail in Australia. However, as my video says, 50 million persons worldwide are slaves TODAY, 2024, more than at any time in history, and a high proportion are children. You might find the video boring, but the issue of slavery and slave trading should get your attention. I hope so. I'm including relevant links in the comments below. #slavery #slavetrading #humantrafficking #antislavery

Today, we honor the memory of those lost in the tragedy of 9/11. This day serves as a reminder of the deep sorrow and suffering that violence and hatred can inflict. Yet, as we commemorate, we must also confront the uncomfortable truth that as a global community, we often remain silent in the face of ongoing atrocities. We cannot claim to honor the victims of past horrors while turning a blind eye to the genocides and war crimes occurring in our world today. As humans, we have the power to choose which side of history we want to stand on — whether we contribute to the perpetuation of violence through inaction, or work toward peace and justice. Let us truly honor the victims of 9/11 by doing our utmost to stand against injustice wherever it may occur, for silence is complicity, and action is the path to change. #LetUsBeHumans #September11 #WorldPeace

❗Warning the following post contains details that may be distressing. Today, we honour and remember the tragic events of the Coniston Massacre, a dark chapter in Australia's history. Between August 14 and October 18, 1928, a tragic series of events unfolded in the Northern Territory, known as the Coniston Massacre. This massacre, which resulted in the deaths of many Warlpiri, Anmatyerre, and Kaytetye people, is remembered as the last known officially sanctioned massacre. 🌱It is crucial we acknowledge, remember and learn from the past to build a future grounded in Truth, Justice, and Reconciliation. #ConistonMassacre #Reconciliation #PracticalReconciliation
