Medulloblastoma is the most common brain tumor in children, and approximately 250 children are diagnosed with it each year. The current treatments in place are highly toxic to the developing bodies of children—and yet, there are few market incentives for companies to put in the R&D to bring better therapies to market. Funding for this critical research is left up to the nonprofit community, which includes many individuals who have lost a child they love to this malignant disease. That is why our mission is urgent. As I plan out my year, there are two dates that have been on my mind. The first is February 20th, which marks 5 years in remission for my child who battled Stage 3 Neuroblastoma, a deadly and devastating cancer. If our last round of scans goes well, my child will be considered 'cured'...I struggle to even type the word! The second date is Sunday, April 7th, which marks our 5th #Run2Cure in the Domain. This year, my child can participate in the run, thanks to the amazing work of our Oncology team. However, we owe a lot of credit to #TEC member Lucy Jones and Neuroblastoma Australia, who have played an incredible role in funding important research into this rare and terrible childhood cancer. Our goal this year is to raise $5k...for 5 years. Help us make this year a big one by getting involved in any way you can. Here are some ideas: 1. Join our team and come run/walk with us! You don't have to be a fitness fanatic to join. It's a beautiful walk/run around the Domain. 2. Donate what you can. Remember any donation above $2 is tax deductible! 3. That reason being because we can make it happen, or should we say YOU can make it happen, we are just the driver. There’s always so much going on behind the scenes. 1. We are first and foremost continuing to grant families in need. (15 to be exact last month). 2. We have also teamed with the ChadTough group in collaboration to raise funds for DIPG research. We have committed a $5,000.00 donation. 3. Our final additional commitment is to a exciting new website This will be a all in one site for DIPG families that will assist with information/resources in all aspects of DIPG.
