Being a civil Quantity Surveyor (#QS) doesn't mean my job is limited to quantity surveying alone. On the contrary, my work starts with receiving the ARC and Structural drawings, comparing them, and identifying any conflicts. Then, I review the project's specifications and understand the contract and its loopholes to create an accurate Bill of Quantities (BOQ). These skills are essential, especially when working with contractors, as there must be a clear plan for quantifying each item and the approved method from the consultant and Client at the start of the project to avoid any confusion during execution. I believe that a #QuantitySurveyor is a microcosm of a #Contracts and #TenderEngineer, not just limited to quantity surveying. 😎 #Engineering #Civil #Egypt #SharmElSheikh #EgyptianEngineer #EngineeringProjects #QS #SharksBayMarina #Golfcoarse

Quantity surveying is a profession within the construction industry that deals with the measurement, estimation, and control of costs and quantities of construction materials, labor, and other resources required for a project. It involves working on various stages of a project, from initial feasibility studies and cost estimation to final account settlement. As a quantity surveyor, one needs to have a strong command of the English language as it is the primary language of communication in the construction industry. It is crucial to have good reading, writing, and speaking skills in English to effectively understand and interpret project specifications, contracts, and other documentation. Quantity surveyors are responsible for preparing and presenting reports, conducting negotiations, and providing cost advice to clients, contractors, and other stakeholders. They also need to effectively communicate with other professionals involved in the project, such as architects, engineers, and project managers, to ensure accurate cost planning and control. In addition, quantity surveyors often need to document their findings, prepare cost plans, bills of quantities, and tender documents, all of which require clear and concise written English to effectively convey information. English language proficiency is not only essential for working with clients and stakeholders, but it is also crucial for staying updated with the latest industry standards and regulations. Much of the knowledge in quantity surveying is disseminated through English-language publications, research papers, and industry forums.
