Arthur Chan’s post hit me differently today. Multiple thoughts and examples came instantly to mind. Most recently it was sitting in a board meeting with CIM | Chartered Managers Canada at the beginning of December. Arthur’s exact post were my thoughts before I left the meeting. Three individuals requested information, they happen to be women. All three were ignored…by men. It was cemented in my thought by the behaviours demonstrated. Once we see something it’s impossible to not see it. Social media platforms are good for this. It’s the same way as spoken words…once they’re said they can’t be retracted. My next thought about Arthur’s post… Maybe, just maybe we are seeing that people are believing in their worth more than we think? It was most obvious during Christmas shopping. People waited in long lines everywhere they shopped. Always hearing about employee shortages. Often stated in a negative phrase against people rather than the business. Meanwhile no one is connecting the dots that some of the employee shortages being experienced is because people know their worth and refuse to work for companies with reputations of not so EQUITABLE behaviour. Costco Wholesale is one business I’ve directly been told that people love working for. It’s also worth mentioning that Costco supports equity. Check out the line of businesses they’ve stopped working with. Thank you Jack Lessel, CIM®, FCSI® for this reminder today. A conversation with Jack got me thinking even deeper about people believing in their worth more than society is recognizing. Maybe we’re seeing a silent movement after all. #cim #equity #knowyourworth #learntowalkaway #makeadifference
