The African diaspora across the globe have demonstrated their strong links, engagement, and contribution to the socio-economic development in the continent through unwavering commitment and resilience that has withstood recurrent challenging global dynamics. The Entebbe meeting shows that the African Union through CIDO is creating the much-needed platform and space for African diaspora policy dialogue that takes an inter-generational dimension - a policy choice that speaks to the future and sustainability of African diaspora remittances for development

It was a pleasure joining for the first ever African Union CIDO Diaspora Forum in Uganda that convened global diaspora leaders to discuss diaspora engagement on the continent. As BPIA President, I ensured that a voice representing the African American/the Black community in the US, or what I refer to as the “lost tribe” of the continent, was present and accounted for. --- 🌍 **Celebrating Africa Day: Embracing Unity and Cohesion** 🌍 Today marks Africa Day, a significant occasion that commemorates the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) on May 25, 1963. This day isn't just a reminder of historical milestones; it is a powerful acknowledgment of the diverse cultures, unparalleled resilience, and boundless potential that characterize the African continent. Africa Day is a call to action for unity and cohesion. It is a celebration of the progress made and a reflection on the ongoing challenges that can only be addressed through collective effort and solidarity. As we commemorate this day, let's emphasize the importance of working together across borders and embracing our shared identity to drive forward the economic, social, and political advancements that will shape a prosperous future for all. In the spirit of Pan-Africanism, let us harness our diverse strengths, foster regional integration, and innovate sustainable solutions that will elevate our communities. By standing united, we can build a continent that not only thrives but also leads on the global stage. Happy Africa Day to everyone! Let's continue to nurture the spirit of unity and cohesion in all that we do. #AfricaDay #UnityInDiversity #PanAfricanism #TogetherWeProsper ---

Which currency do you want under your pillow, when you go to sleep at night? I participated in the USC Africa Engages Global Power and was pleased to learn from the excellent panel of experts that the African Union recognizes the importance of the new membership of G20 (now G21?) and has allocated some efforts to utilize it in the best way for the African Continent. It is my sincere belief that the G20 appointment in particular due to the support of Europe was based on the hope that the African Union could be some sort of counterbalance to the frozen power balance between East and West. Gradually has the traditional trade competition between the US and China turned into a currency battle introduced by the BRICS alliance under the (surprising and in my opinion meaningless leadership of India) where the real fight has changed from trade restrictions to an outright declaration of war against the US dollar. My point is that the African Continent being the biggest under utilized market in the world could be the decisive factor in which way the future will bring us, the BRICS or the Dollar way. Consequently, I can see the African Union could be the new battleground between BRICS and the US and the Unions handling of this issue is important from any perspective, wether it is geopolitically, culturally or pure economically. So far the BRICS seems to be in the winning position with South Africa, Egypt and Ethiopia as members and if Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda and a few other African countries follow up on their request for membership, it might be the end of the US dollar as the stabile and reliable default currency not only in the energy sector but in trade as such, leaving the monetary market like a patchwork blanket. To that end my question is, no matter what happens, which currency do you want to have under your pillow, when you go to sleep at night?
Today's "Africa Engages Global Powers" forum at USC DC attracted more than double the number of in-person participants than had RSVP'd. We ran out of chairs: People camped out on the couch, lounge chairs, and of course stood in the back by the food (which ran out).
