It’s Black History Month! While we at BSI support this month of “celebration" - we remind the industry to forge ahead with equitable actions at all times, across the year. Black Owned Media is a moral imperative with critical business impact. In this NPR interview, we learn about the important role that black owned media serves in HUMANIZING, instead DEMONIZING the black experiences in America. If not for Black press through the generations, there would be no accountability for the adverse actions against the black community at large. Owning the narrative is owning the future. https://lnkd.in/gWRu7Uga

Award-Winning Creative Entrepreneur, Brand Designer, Strategist, and Public Speaker collaborating with Women-Led businesses to build their brand online and IRL. I run @workdaycreative
PSA: Black creatives exist. Black voices and perspectives matter. There are Black professionals who are excelling in your industry. If you find yourself in a space or on a stage virtual and/or IRL or in a board room, where there are no Black people or there is only ONE token Black person, ask why? And if the answer is “we couldn’t find anyone” or there simply isn’t an answer or response to the call out—🚩🚩🚩 that’s a red flag and there is probably a need for reformation.

Igniting experiential brands through visual storytelling. Former creative lead at ESPN Radio, Freelance Creative
Tuesday, my teammates and I had the opportunity to (virtually) sit down with Pepper Miller, a recognized Market Researcher, Author, Black-American Subject Matter Expert & Thought Leader, Award-Winning Speaker, & Conversation Starter, to discuss her book Let Me Explain Black, Again: Exploring Blind Spots and Black Insights for Marketing & Understanding Black Culture and Perspectives. This research-focused book was not only analytical but also easy to digest, providing a clear understanding of Black Culture in America. I highly recommend EVERYONE in my feed to add this book to your TBR. 📚 Here are my lasting takeaways and key quotes from Pepper's book and conversation that everyone should remember: -Everyone has blind spots, misconceptions, and/or a void in knowledge. FIND THEM, acknowledge them, educate yourself, and be authentic. 👀 🗣️"Beliefs and behaviors are shaped by realities people [they] can’t see." -Black people are different. Different does not mean deficient. Different should be celebrated. Understanding and marketing to Black consumers should be approached in a genuinely different way. 🗣️"Black people think about being Black 90% of the time, white people think about being white 10% of the time." Thank you again to Pepper for taking the time to speak with us! Grab her book here: https://lnkd.in/e7Aiar_h
