I’d like to know Doug’s position on the LCBO worker’s strike action. It’s all fine and good to redirect commercial demand to supply but the employees of the LCBO want to be back at work. The Ontario Public Service Employees Union townhall where the membership will have a chance to be updated on negotiations between the Provincial Government and the union will take place tomorrow. I believe that the government should be making its stance on our workers strike known in a coherent and public statement tomorrow as well. It’s my opinion that the current industry model is better than what the government is planning. I understand that many industry forces want the LCBO to relinquish our place in the sales environment, but is that wise for Ontario? My answer is that it is not. The LCBO has great buying power, the ability and expertise to import the finest beer wine spirits and ready to drink, the LCBO contributes to Provincial coffers and every few weeks we rally for a charity fundraising campaign. We keep a high standard of professionalism. We are at the forefront of reporting retail theft effectively. If Doug Ford government goes on with the plan to bring liquor to every storefront it’s my opinion that’s inviting decline. Decline in our power, decline in our province, decline in our standards, decline in our safety.
