It Technician Tips 101 "Mumbo Jumbo" I currently do not have a job. Mainly, because of some major life changes like moving from the US to the UK. I remain optimistic and hopeful that my situation will change soon. I know there's many of you that are probably seeking employment as well. When it comes to job postings, it may seem sensible to just click the cancel application button because the job description starts to say things like "Bachelor degree or equivalent certification" or "IT systems level 3 analyst" or some other ridiculous wording. The more I apply for a lot of these jobs, the more I can wholeheartedly say it's all just mumbo jumbo. The job listing posters are full of it. A break and fix computer repair person that just replaces power supplies or ram modules may be called a it system analyst or even a senior IT coordinator. It really is all bs. If you know you have a decent set of IT skills, just apply to it anyway. The worst that's going to happen is you don't get the job. #ittechnician #itanalyst #desktopsupport #itjobsearch #ittips

Have you ever wondered what a morning looks like for a technician? Meet Darren, he's a multi-skilled technician in our Responsive Repairs team. Here's what he says about a typical morning at Havebury. "In this role, flexibility is key, as no two jobs are the same, so I must have tools and parts for different repair jobs. My scheduler releases the jobs for the day to me first thing in the morning so I can quickly glance over where I am and what jobs need to be completed. I also take special notice of any specific requests, such as before midday or avoiding the school run times, to ensure I fit my day around these requirements. My days vary; some days, I have a full day of inspections, where a resident has reported an issue, and I go and find out more about the job. If it’s an issue I can fix there and then I will do it. This saves the resident the inconvenience of a follow-up appointment. Before each appointment, I notify the resident that I am on my way. If they don’t answer, I will still head to their home. When I get to a resident’s home, I will look to understand the reported repair fully. I will then explain my planned solution and log the details on our system. In the case of an inspection, if I can perform the repair there and then, I often have what I need in my van, but when I don’t, I will explain this to the residents and let them know the next steps. After I have completed the repair, I will inform the resident what I have done and make sure they are happy, and I will update our system, which will close off the job. If I have used parts from the van, I will make a note to replenish the stock at the next opportunity. I am then off to the next repair or inspection. What I love about my role is its unpredictability and the immense job satisfaction it brings. I am dedicated to assisting residents in their homes, including looking at any other repairs they may have to see if I can help". Companies in the South will post jobs looking for Technicians with 3-5 years of experience with a salary range of $66,000-102,000, but will only want to pay $70,000 to a Technician with 17 years of experience but will offer a Technician with 5 years of experience the same thing, make it make sense. What's the use of putting in half of your life working for these Companies and they not want to compensate you for your experience fairly? The first excuse that they use is the cost of living is cheaper, the cost of living may be cheaper but inflation is also a REAL factor, the cost of living in the South is not the same as it was in the 90s or early 2000s. Then they wonder why people like myself leave after 2-5 years because within those years, most companies will only give you a raise of maybe $2 or so within 2-5 years even if your performance reviews are meet or exceed expectations, so then you leave the company to get your value in the offer they make you since the previous company would not value your loyalty and performance, once you leave most will either put you on the do not rehire list for whatever reason even though you left on good terms and gave more than a 2 weeks notice to help them train someone to replace you. So this is the job market, this is why my generation is not like the old generation, staying loyal to one company, a piece of paper shouldn't be a factor over experience for growth but it is.
