Employee or Independent Contractor (IC)? This is an important distinction, particularly from a liability perspective. Most general liability & professional liability policies do not automatically include IC's as "insureds", and therefore such personnel are not automatically covered for work they perform for policyholders-even though they may think they are. In order to avoid such a coverage gap, it is important to know who is an IC and who isn't-the article below provides some useful guidelines to determine this...

To all my #newyork Property Owners, Property Managers, Contractors and Developers. If I said the words, "New York Labor Law", how would you respond? Based on our conversations over the last year a small % of you would shudder. You know how New York Labor Law, or more specifically exclusions related to Labor Law/Action Over insurance claims can leave you exposed to significant liability for any vendor or sub-working at your property/site. Most of you may be saying, "New York what?". Labor Law is not new but insurance exclusions, not present in COIs or Additional Insured endorsements, are more common than ever. Claims related to Labor Law are costly and can significantly alter your future insurance costs or make your building uninsurable. Jones Software is hosting a webinar later this month with one of our Insurance Broker partners, Levitt-Fuirst Insurance's Jason Schiciano, CPIA where we will cover what the New York Labor Law is, how it creates liability for Property Owners, Managers, Contractors, and Developers and how to better protect yourself from damaging insurance claims. You may not be able to afford to miss it! #construction #propertymanagement #development #laborlaw #riskmanagement #insuretech
