I'm not lucky, so I can't win. These are all the things I once believed. It held me back from applying for certain jobs. It held me back from valuing my gift to inspire. It held me back from enjoying small victories. Part of this is because I simply didn't know what I didn't know. But looking back, there was a lot that I didn't know I knew. It took someone helping me understand that what I knew was valuable and applicable to whatever came next. Why I chose Sales Geek, and the importance of genuine culture. There were many reasons I decided on Sales Geek. That leap of faith was driven primarily by the people I met along the way. Throwback Thursday! As I'm pivoting into sales, the phrase "transferable skills" keeps popping up, and I'm figuring out what that means for me. As I apply for roles like business development, inside sales, and strategic partnerships, I recall a time when I've effectively sold an event and an idea before. Here's a short story: In February, I aimed to create a safe space where people could discuss healthy relationships, therapy, and generational trauma while feeling empowered to share. With just 3 weeks of marketing, my team and I managed to get 100 people to RSVP, resulting in a 60% attendance rate at the event. From 2018 - 22, I earned $3,843,695 in tech sales. But I didn’t live a multi-million-dollar lifestyle. The goal was to get so rich I could quit. Not just the corporate rat race, but quit 3 things: - Defining my self-worth through leaderboards - Working on projects that didn’t bring joy - Sacrificing the things that matter Instead of jumping into building a sales coaching empire, I freed myself up to run a “calm company.” At this stage, it feels like work that I want to do forever. I am free to: - Write about things I care about - Engage with people I admire - Design work around my life If I’m honest, I thought like this throughout my career. I always endeavored to turn my work into play. But here’s a fact: As long as someone owns your calendar, it will be impossible to have the full freedom to do what you want, when you want, with who you want. When I was fired from my tech sales job in 2020 It was my 4th company in 4 years... I went from President’s Club + Sales MVP To being fired for missing quota. Now I was scrambling to figure out what was next. I was so driven to become VP of Sales, To cash in a ton of stock options, And to be someone who “made it” Even though my mind was telling me to make more $ A deeper part of me knew that wouldn’t work. It had ENOUGH. It said “screw this, we need to start living differently.” It led me to a decision that would change my life: → Start listening to my gut → Only follow what feels true to my heart 2 days later I started a clothing company. 4 years later I’ve coached 100+ high-achieving men. I was so attached to “success” that I was blind to what life was all about → My health suffered → My career suffered → My relationships suffered → My mental health suffered And the solution was so simple. I didn’t need more money. I just needed to listen to my gut. And the rest would take care of itself. From VP of Sales to CRO. I knew a VP of Sales who was leading a national sales team who was in a great place career-wise. She was "all good", but was happy to recommend people from her network. And then I asked...what's your job after the job - your next great career move? Our conversation got her thinking: If she stayed where she was the C-suite was 5 years away. →She wasn't looking for a new job →I was just reaching out in case she knew somebody else... →But it turned out to be a great next step for HER. Sometimes we don't have that career itch until a great position gets handed to us. Especially when we're doing a great job where we are. But that's what I love about what I do: showing people what else is out there... So when the time is right, they can make big moves & cut YEARS off their career path. You never know what a casual quick phone conversation can lead to.

What prepared you for a career as a business development representative? ✏️ I'd like to rephrase this question: "What prepared me to enter a business development role in the IT consulting and professional services industry?" My answer to that question is door-to-door selling. I cannot begin to express my gratitude for every single lesson, story, win, and loss that I experienced working in the field in a commission-only role selling high-volume, low-cost products to anyone and everyone who gave me a moment of their time to hear my pitch. Continuous face-to-face rejection helped me grow tough, thick skin. "Teflon skin" as I call it. I loved door-to-door selling so much that I interviewed, trained and grew / managed a team of D2D sellers. Many lessons were learned from managing people, the good and the ugly. Many days were spent training young, impressionable reps in the field in all types of weather. Losing team members because walking in 2 feet of snow wasn't something they cared for (and I don't blame them). Building the right attitude, the right mentality, and goal setting every day as well as making even a small difference drove me to shaping my team and moving them to the St. Louis market where I opened my own face-to-face direct sales and marketing firm. My company was open and running for one year and closed around the time the Pandemic started in 2020. I'm forever grateful for 3 years of "pounding the pavement" and that's why I chose a business development role at #InterVision because I knew I had the right foundation to learn in a new industry and make it work. I was on the brink of quitting my SDR role!! As a new tech sales rep, the reality of the role was a far cry from the glamorous image I had built in my mind. I was feeling unfulfilled, overwhelmed, and questioning if I had made the right career choice. But then, something clicked.
