#India #Elections The basics: Why #Nifty50 saw its biggest drop in 4 years even when #modi is coming back - All you need is the comparison map from 2019. The degree of saffron-ness says it all. Saffron color marks the seats won by #BJP (Modi's party) 📉 Why: Strategic placement of candidates by alliance of opposition parties to ensure that there is no cannibalization of anti-BJP vote. Another factor is that, marginalized communities & #rural #voters probably voted on the real issues of #unemployment & #financial stress. Because urban centers mostly voted just like 2019. 📣 Takeaway for #politicalparties/pundits: Don't take voters for granted. 2014 & 2019 were about anti-corruption, and growth & development. This time, the unspoken agenda was communalism & us-vs-them, which the voters rejected (thankfully!). Interesting tid-bits: - A million vote win: BJP's candidate from a constituency won by more than 1 million #votes! 🎯 - A couple of candidates fought from jails & won! (One of them is pro-khalistani, and the other one defeated a former chief minister) - Another interesting fact: Son of one of the assassins of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi won. - BJP lost from the #Ayodhya! Surprising, because making a temple in Ayodhya was one of their key campaign promises since forever, on which they were able to deliver this year. 🕍 - Losses from cabinets: Tribal minister & minister of Women & Child development lost! #Congress must be like 😎: Haar ke bhi jeetne wale ko Baazigar kehte hain! Map: from Bloomberg. Pretty neat coverage by India Today #Electionresults #results #NDA #INDIA

This year, the world's three largest democracies 🇮🇩 🇮🇳 🇺🇸 will go to the polls. Together, they represent over 25% of the planet's population 🌏. Uncharacteristically, the #US 🇺🇸 elections in October hangs in the balance. While #Indonesia 🇮🇩 went first, delivering a decisive (59%) presidential victory for President-elect #Prabowo. Next up is #India, which begins to poll next month, and PM Modi is expected to deliver a resounding victory. I geeked out Anthropic's #ClaudeAI, and here are some interesting facts: 🗳️ India has had 10 (of a total of 14) #PrimeMinisters representing three parties (Janta Dal / Party having similar roots) who have won a #GeneralElection. 🗳️ Before the current #BJP government led by #NarendraModi, no one had won with more than 50% of the #LokSabha in two decades. If re-elected, he will also be the second prime minister to serve three consecutive terms (Nehru being the other). 🗳️ #PMModi has set himself and his party an ambitious target of "#4JuneKo400Paar," which translates to over 400 seats when results are declared on June 4. This would represent more 70% of the seats and has only been done once before by #Congress's #RajivGandhi on the back of a sympathy wave after the assassination of his mother #PM #IndiraGandhi. 🗳️ A mammoth total of 969 million people (more than the entire population of #Europe) are eligible to vote over 82 days and 7 phases with 1 million polling stations, making this the #largest #electoral #exercise ever. 🗳️ It is also expected to be the world's #most #expensive election, with spending by candidates and parties expected to cross US$14 Bn. #Elections2024 #Democracy #IndonesiaVotes #IndiaElections #USElections #PoliticalFacts #ElectoralProcess #GlobalPolitics #DemocracyInAction #ElectoralStatistics #PoliticalInsights

2024 will be a historic year for both India and the USA as they hold their respective elections. India, the largest democracy in the world, may witness the largest party in parliament with over 50% of valid votes for first time in its democratic history. Meanwhile, the USA, the richest democracy in the world, may see a president in the White House with less than 40% of valid votes for first time in its democratic history. If this happens, the interpretation of leadership of the free world will flip. It's a wait-and-watch game for now. #India #USA #Elections2024 #Democracy #Leadership #FreeWorld

The most anticipated #indianelections starts tomorrow! #NOTA While I am one who has no particular inclination towards any party as such, more so dislikes systems that are based on popularity rather than meritocracy, it presents me with much ambiguity over what to do with my right to exercise. Going by logical reasoning, since I am not impressed with any of the positioned candidates, I should vote NOTA right? Or not? Doesn't NOTA have no value at all? Even if we reach a time where NOTA applies and the candidature is dissolved, can our nation afford to repeat elections? Isn't NOTA illogical, and just emotional? So to all the netizens of democratic India, I ask, what does one in my position do? #democracy #humanrights #india #loksabha #elections #GOI #BJP #congress
