I am one of the individuals who felt the impact of General Ogolla's passing, despite not having known him personally. I closely followed his funeral service and was deeply touched by his daughter's speech, from which I drew several valuable lessons: 1. Strive for excellence and let your accomplishments speak for themselves. 2. Cultivate your spiritual side; it serves as your anchor. 3. Embrace humility, as exemplified by General Ogolla, who was described as remarkably modest and unpretentious, embodying leadership without the need for a formal title. Rest in peace, General Ogolla!
The fragility of life - the most underrated fortune is to come back home. Our Chief of Defense Forces General Francis Ogolla and his men perished in an air crash, and these past few days through his life and death we are seeing bare the importance of humility and intentionality. Live as if tomorrow may never come, be kind to those around you, and those entrusted to your care, knowing full well that at the end of it all, there’s only one way and no one is getting out alive.

1/3 The Marines Capture of Peleliu – September 15, 1944 to November 27, 1944 In March of this year, I took my adult son on a Stephen Ambrose Tour of some of the famous US Marine battlefields of the Pacific War. Peleliu, and the other Pacific battlefields we visited, were high on my “bucket list” of places to experience. Those included Pearl Harbor, Saipan, Tinian, and Guam. We spent several days at each location, but the one that stood out was Peleliu. The Stephen Ambrose Tour company cites Peleliu as being the most authentic and unaltered battlefield left from the entire Pacific War. Live ammunition still exists on the battlefield, as do “still in place” machine gun nests, Japanese and American helmets, canteens, WW II Japanese beer bottles in the “1000 man cave.” We were careful to follow the tour guide’s instructions to walk only on the “safe” walking paths that the Australians have been carving over the island. Some are as narrow as four feet wide. Few knowledgeable people would question that Peleliu, one of the Palau islands about 500 miles East of the Philippines, was the most vicious battle that the US Marine Corps fought in World War II: “The Battle of Peleliu resulted in the highest casualty rate of any amphibious assault in American military history: Of the approximately 28,000 Marines and infantry troops involved, a full 40 percent of the Marines and soldiers that fought for the island died or were wounded, for a total of some 9,800 men (1,800 killed in action and 8,000 wounded). The high cost of the battle was later attributed to several factors, including typical Allied overconfidence in the efficacy of the pre-landing naval bombardment, a poor understanding of Peleliu’s unique terrain, and overconfidence on the part of Marine commanders, who refused to admit their need for support earlier on at Bloody Nose Ridge.” Battle of Peleliu (history.com). “The Pacific,” a 2010 HBO, Playtone, and DreamWorks documentary (The Pacific (miniseries) - Wikipedia) is a companion documentary to Steven Ambrose’s “Band of Brothers.” It focuses on the United States Marine Corp’s actions in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Each of its 10 episodes is about 1 hour long and covers Marine operations on different islands. Three of these episodes are dedicated to the Battle for Peleliu and to the unfathomable courage of the individual Marines fighting in this battle. The documentary focuses on Marines of K Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines who landed on Orange Beach 2, close to the main objective of the invasion, the airfield. It is based on first-hand accounts of their struggles during this battle, from books written by Eugene Sledge and Robert Leckie. Both were Marines fighting on Peleliu in this unit. “The Pacific” documents the courage of all Marines fighting on that island. One veteran of that battle defined courage as “controlled fear.” continued...

Are you aware of the Uphill Decision Razor? It's the understanding that when faced with 2 tasks, you should opt to do the harder task first. Naval Ravikant describes this as "uphill decisions" - overriding your natural instinct to avoid the harder task. Short-term pain creates compounding long-term gain.
