Pulling it apart a little - because I want to tailor it more for people I serve and the business I would like to become. We recently had a site inspection for a soon-to-open resort in Penang, and it truly left an impression. As I shared this photo with my colleagues, the immediate response was a surprised "Wah, how many more hotels are opening in Penang?" What excites me most about these pre-opening projects or even rebranding efforts is the unique opportunity I have as a Marcom to set the brand standard from the ground up (following the Brand Guidelines of course) *wink* Having worked on several pre-opening projects, I can say it gets exciting every time. Being involved from the start means I can shape the narrative, tone, and visual identity of the brand, ensuring it aligns with the brand values while appealing to its target audience. Although we are an agency thats hired by the brand to execute the branding/marketing effort, it’s an incredibly rewarding process to be part of, and we take pride in ensuring that the hotel is presented with its best foot forward even before it officially opens its doors. This weekend, in conjunction with the KL Kreatif Festival, I found myself exploring downtown Kuala Lumpur. I stumbled upon a newly repurposed event space called The Toffee KL, which also hosts Bernard Chandran’s Myth Evolution Fashion Art Exhibition (running until 20.10.2024). It’s an intriguing space, home to UrMu (Urban Museum), a private collection filled with incredible works from local artists. After soaking in all the creativity on display, I made my way up to the rooftop, adorably named BoomBong. As I stood there, this was my view: a rooftop, looking down on another rooftop, with the towering Warisan 118 standing tall in the background. KL is a city where the old and new meet in unexpected ways. This space, like many others, is breathing new life into an older building. Walking up the stairs, I couldn’t help but admire the well-worn tiles—each one with its own story to tell. There’s something captivating about the juxtaposition of fresh energy in a space that carries the marks of history. The weathered rooftop beneath me reminded me that, in both design and life, we often seek the shiny and new. But sometimes, it’s the aged, imperfect elements that carry the deepest beauty. They represent resilience, history, and the stories that have shaped us. It’s a reminder to honor the past while still moving forward—just as KL does so beautifully with its mix of tradition and modernity. That’s the charm of Malaysia, isn’t it? Unlocking Potential Through Pressure I get it—working under pressure can be incredibly stressful. But if you look at it from a different angle, it’s also where your true potential shines the brightest. I experienced this firsthand while working on a video project for SoKlin Royale, in collaboration with renowned fashion designer Deden Siswanto. This video was created as the opening for one of the largest fashion events in Surabaya. Believe it or not, the entire production happened in just one day, with another day for editing, and the video aired the next day. Even now, it’s hard for me to believe how I managed to pull it off. But this experience taught me that to reach your maximum potential, you need to give everything you’ve got—even when the pressure feels overwhelming. Being a graphic designer at Go Mobile is not easy... BUT it's fun, especially with our Communication team is living in different time zones. We've had to align our time because of the tricky time schedule, since most people are in Jakarta (GMT+7), our head temporarily is in Moscow (GMT+3), and our social media manager's in Melbourne (GMT+10). Even with our different schedules, we've managed to keep the communication and work quite well. We realized the importance of being flexible and clear in our communication. Because we are using Asana as our default work management tools, it has been so helpful for us, helping us stay on track even though we're in different time zones. We could still share files, updates, and feedback, even if we weren't online at the same time. To top all of that, our Communication director also arrange us a weekly meeting to adjust our work like talking about strategies for the Social Media post, ask us if we have some trouble with something so we can work it out together, and just catch up with all of us because we are all in different place. Overall working as Graphic designer in Go Mobile while it's challenging it's also fun. The team membership makes the whole office atmosphere warm.
