Hiring people with #livedexperience. No matter how much education or professional experience someone has, you simply cannot train them to understand things the way someone with lived experience does. People with lived experience can bring valuable insight, deep perspective, unique compassion, and a relatability that others may not have. People with lived experience can share their knowledge for the benefit of those we serve and those we work alongside. There is a very important place for lived experience and knowledge in the helping sector. I would argue this should be a priority. When hiring, it is worth considering applicants who have lived experience, who have invested in their own healing/growth and now seek to share this with others. Invite this type of sharing and discussion in the application and hiring process! Validate these experiences! Many skills can be taught or mentored, and bringing someone on to the team who has that lived experience is worth the time and energy. As leaders, let's invest our time into people who have "been there, done that". #leadership #development #livedexperiences #buildyourteam

11moAbsolutely agree! People with lived experience are invaluable on the team! I do think it’s worth considering the nature of how we hold those discussions and space for people to share during the interview process though as to not retraumatize candidates. It takes diplomacy.
