Beer industry folks, you may have noticed this year that much of my and Bryan Roth's reporting and analysis is now part of the Sightlines newsletter. So, what is Sightlines, and how is relevant to you? Sightlines is a subscription insights newsletter for the bev-alc industry. Bryan and I have combined decades of experience reporting on this space, and we're using that background—along with data analysis, smart case studies, conversations with experts, and real-world examples—to help companies answer their biggest questions with confidence. This is some of our recent coverage that has addressed those questions with real, actionable takeaways: - What types of events are drawing drinkers to the on-premise post-COVID? - Which craft beer styles are consumers willing to splurge on today? - How can breweries ensure their marketing addresses Gen Z’s priorities? - How does adding product attributes and certifications to a label convert shoppers into buyers? - How can craft breweries win in convenience stores? - What’s the scale of the low-alcohol beer opportunity? For the next few days after Craft Brewers Conference, we have a 50% discount code that's valid for your first purchase of an annual or monthly subscription. It's a great, low-stakes way to check out the work we're doing. Hope you'll join us. Code: CBC2024 Signup: https://lnkd.in/eTFB-VYE

I highly suggest you check out the Craft Beer Advisory Services programs offered by Michael Varda. He has a very affordable program full of actionable research for craft breweries. The annual report always delivers information that can help improve your own-premise operations. With his permission, I am sharing a key slide below with a few thoughts. 1. The importance of FOOD continues to gain momentum. Don't sleep on it. 2. I believe atmosphere is not always reported accurately. But even here, it shows up as important. People get a feeling on a space that never shows up in the data. Always keep a keen eye on atmosphere. Andrew Coplon reported on the perception of "busyness" of a space and how it affects revenue recently. This is real. 3. If you make "Highly Engaged Staff and Service" a MUST HAVE for your business it will pay back in multiples. It's on the differentiator list because it's not as common as you might think. Many pieces of research agree on the effectiveness of this tool. 4. I need more places with an IT FOOD :) Go here (https://lnkd.in/eXe6R6MU) sign up and get all of the good info for yourself.

4 things that caught my attention at Manchester Craft Beer Fest 1. Fyne Ales: countdown to Jarl! It’s hard to stand out at a beer fest. Fyne Ales had a countdown clock to build a bit of anticipation and theatre around Jarl. They also had a horn which they used to summon drinkers from the depths of the mayfield depot. 2. Ideal Day’s Wooden Keg Badges It’s also really hard to stand out on the bar. Ideal Day, one of winners of this year’s Raise the Bar competition, is a farm house brewery supporting regenerative farming. They have managed to stand out with their handmade wooden badges whilst also communicating their brand brilliantly. 3. Fierce’s Hard Lemonade Gen Z are not drinking as much craft beer as millennials did. Big breweries are thinking beyond beer with NPD to appeal to younger drinkers. It’s great to see Fierce thinking about how to appeal to new drinkers and hopefully bring more drinkers into craft as a result. 4. Sellar QR codes The Revolution has begun. 31 breweries at Manchester were using Sellar to capture impulsive orders from trade customers and ensure they have a RTM to all potential customers.

Did you miss this? The beer flight trend, once popular, faces scrutiny as craft beer matures. Many breweries, now specializing in specific styles, argue flights dilute beer appreciation. Meanwhile, newer breweries like Talea Beer Co. see flights as crucial for engaging curious consumers, offering them Instagrammable experiences. Some, like Fait La Force Brewing and Holy Mountain Brewing Co., prioritize proper glassware and curated pours over flights. The debate hinges on educating consumers versus providing optimal beer experiences. While flights suit some, others opt for something more tailored, highlighting craft beer's evolution and the industry's quest for inclusivity alongside quality. Check out this article on beer flights by @highwaytohops at the link in bio! #fermlyknow #knowyourcraft #knowyourbeer #craftbeer #didyoumissthis #beerflights #beertrends
