Plan Voisin was a proposal put forward by Le Corbusier, a pioneering modernist architect, in 1925. It was a bold urban plan designed to transform central Paris into a grid of skyscrapers and highways. Le Corbusier envisioned demolishing the historic city center and replacing it with rows of identical high-rise buildings surrounded by parks and transportation infrastructure. Le Corbusier exerted a strong influence on the urban planning concepts of the 1960s and 1970s, but was also rejected as a model of inhumane, schematic grid architecture. Thomas Heatherwick calls for two very simple basic architectural principles: Human architecture and re-use / renovation of buildings instead of their demolition. Both are often not respected because these projects require more brain than mainstream architecture.

One of our #CPD sessions at AMS Planning talks about the (sometimes) subtle differences that are obvious when you know. What do you think? (HBOs aren’t allowed to take part…they might get it wrong!) #heritage #georgianarchitecture #victorian No cheating by looking up my YouTube channel video on this subject!

One of the challenges but also tremendous opportunities in affordable housing development and design is utilizing truly unique sites. I've been a fan of Lorcan O'Herlihy Architects [LOHA]'s work for a while. Their use of land in LA and southern California is really great. Check out this article about utilizing an out of place 19,000 square-foot triangular median. https://lnkd.in/gKzi2BE6
