Recently, I had an exclusive interview with Asian Power Awards, discussing the Hazelwood BESS (HBESS) jointly funded and developed by ENGIE and Eku Energy, with which Fluence has won the 2023 Gold Award in the Battery Storage Project of the Year category. The HBESS marks a significant milestone as one of the first battery-based energy storage systems sited within a decommissioned coal-fired power plant in Victoria's Latrobe Valley in Australia. It uses Fluence’s Gridstack product in delivering the full turnkey project. Due to the modular design of Fluence Gridstack, the HBESS has the potential to be expanded to a longer duration system, which will support a greater need to shift energy between times of plentiful renewable generation and evening peaks. HBESS also uses Fluence's automated trading software, Mosaic to maximise revenue by participating in the Australian NEM. HBESS is a key step towards Victoria's ambitious energy storage target of 2.6 GW by 2030 and 6.3 GW by 2035. Kraft Heinz has signed an agreement with Carlton Power Limited to explore the development of a #greenhydrogen plant at its Kitt Green manufacturing plant in Wigan, Greater Manchester, UK.   The proposed 20 MW Kitt Green hydrogen plant, the first to be taken forward by Kraft Heinz globally, will meet more than 50% of the plant’s annual natural gas demand and reduce the plant’s carbon emissions by 16,000 T/yr. The #hydrogen will be produced by an #electrolyser using #electricity generated from sources of #renewableenergy energy, primarily #wind and #solar #power. Subject to planning approval and financing, the £40-million Carlton/Kraft Heinz renewable hydrogen scheme is earmarked to enter operation in 2026. Kitt Green is one of the largest food processing plants in Europe and one of the largest Kraft Heinz facilities in the world, producing a quarter of a million tons of food annually and employing approximately 850 people. The Kitt Green project is the fifth green hydrogen project that Carlton Power is taking forward within the UK.
