Challenge House is an outreach to underprivileged teens in our community. Their AT&T Program (Attitude, Training & Teamwork) is an annual program for high school students in which participating organizations/businesses in the community teach one-hour classes the week of July 8. They are taught career paths, employment opportunities, everything from how to complete a resume to how to ace an interview. Brazeway Kentucky’s plant manager, Steve Wilson and Lee Malesh, Sustainability Coordinator, spoke to the students at Challenge House #7 on Thursday, July 11. There are other local businesses and organizations, including our local community college, health department, Army, etc., so they had a broad range of speakers. Brazeway provided an ice cream snack for the students, and they also receive $200.00 from Challenge House and a Dell laptop computer for completing the program.

The power of networking!
When old and new jobs collide....using seven years of my past to connect with three years of my current. I introduced and met with 2023 FWCS Teacher of the Year Mrs. Emma, and 3Rivers' Ashlee Guthrie at Tall Rabbit Cafe to discuss bringing quarterly financial wellness programs to her YAT Program at Anthis Career Academy. How do you teach financial strategy to special needs young adults? We are about to find out! I have personally known each student over the last three years. They are remarkable Food Bank volunteers and supporters! When 3Rivers Federal Credit Union, Fort Wayne Community Schools, and Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana, Inc meet at Tall Rabbit... good things happen! #financialwellness

As you know connecting all students to successful pathways - and ensuring students are lifelong learners is a major passion of mine, which is why I was thrilled to attend The College Board's #CBForum24. It was an incredible conference filled with such knowledgeable people doing incredible things in the field. While I was there, I had the opportunity to speak with WorkingNation Ramona Schindelheim for #WorkingNationOverheard – and we had a great discussion about the importance of post-secondary learning. As I told Ramona, “learning doesn't end the day we walk across the stage.” Take a look and let me know what you think in the comments section
High school graduation is just a start. Whatever path you take from there, you’ll always be learning lessons and skills that can be put to use in a career, Tracey Morman, director of counseling/college and career readiness at Amarillo Independent School District, tells WorkingNation Overheard. 👉 Watch her explain why: https://lnkd.in/esP5nB_T Get more insights on the state of education and learning at all levels from kindergarten through college and beyond, as WorkingNation Overheard talks to key thought leaders at The College Board Forum in Austin, Texas. Research shows that the time of day students attend school directly impacts their success. In addition to bell times affecting students, families, staff, and the broader community, they are also the most important factor to achieving an efficient transportation program. Join Tom Platt and Ron Meyer, MBA at this year's Start School Later, Inc. conference to connect with other school leaders from across the country on this critical topic. "Although political polarization is among the major factors behind declining confidence [in #HigherEd], the steps that colleges can take toward mitigating it are less obvious." https://lnkd.in/eg84MXQM There is a way. The program we have forged with Braver Angels, the American Council of Trustees and Alumni, and BridgeUSA is a tried and proven method for building bridges of understanding and reducing negative feelings toward opposing viewpoints, all in the context of a collective search for truth. As the new academic year gets underway, we're ready to work with anyone and everyone, on- and off-campus, to restore constructive debate and confidence for the future. We are back, baby! And we're stoked to invite you all to the FOURTH season of Racial Justice Weavings. These weekly gatherings are for outdoor education and recreation professionals from any school, company, or organization, in any role. First-timers and old-timers all welcome and encouraged! If you are seeking support for: processing your summer or fall season with a racial justice lens, racial justice work you're doing in your own family or workplace, or your personal liberation practice, join us. We're here to do it in community. Logistics: - Wednesday evenings on Zoom, 6-8pm MST - September 4 - December 11, 2024 (with a few breaks in there) - Sliding scale pricing and we will not let cost be a barrier to anyone participating. In September 2020, we (Steph and Ella) began hosting a weekly space for our fellow backpacking and climbing instructors to talk about white supremacy, racism, and racial justice in outdoor education. The Racial Justice Weavings - "Weavings" - were named to place this gathering within its context: a long history and future of racial justice advocacy in outdoor spaces and education. The goal was to foster antiracist culture in our outdoor leadership school through collective learning and relationship-building. This relational, culture-shifting work is slow but it is powerful. We have learned and grown a lot together in the last four years, and we’re eager to keep building and deepening with the next cohort. Message info@greenwoodandduff.com to sign up.
