Technology is often accelerated by pressing need, which is currently most apparent in how we’re tackling the #climatecrisis. The damage we’re inflicting on our planet could hardly be more severe. Already, we’ve passed the 1.5 degrees threshold, and it’s looking as though temperatures might reach up to 4 degrees by the end of the century. So, while sending parasols into space to block the sun’s rays might seem like something out of science fiction, it’s ideas like these that could be our last hope. #sustainability #ESG

Connections made at Space Generation Advisory Council last for a lifetime: I was extremely honoured when Minoo Rathnasabapathy asked me, along with many other esteemed professionals, to provide insights into the future of Earth observation for this white paper of the World Economic Forum. The report is extremely insightful and actionable, charting a bright future for our understanding of the world we live in: 🗺 #EO sensors have improved in resolution, accuracy, coverage and measurements, assisting the detection and analysis of climate-related events even in traditionally hard-to-map regions. ⛈ New AI/ML-based climate models can produce prediction at 1000x the speed of traditional models enabling timely decision making. 🛰 🛩 Small and large EO satellites (along with #HAPS) will all play a role to meet the growing demand of data. 🌡 #Climate resilience can be supported by the increasing resolution (12x) of climate and weather forecast models. 👨💻 Fusion of satellite + in-situ data, #digitaltwins and data cubes will allow users to get tailored and contextualised EO data both at global and local level. The paper also looks at the importance of allocating and preserving the EO #radiospectrum for ensuring advanced measurements of climate variables. Check it out! https://lnkd.in/gxd9X8ht
