Enbridge Touts Natural Gas Projects Adding Permian Egress and Supporting LNG, Data Center Demand

Enbridge Inc. management touted a plethora of projects strategically focused on LNG exports and natural gas that are expanding and optimizing the Calgary-based midstream giants’ operations.
CEO Greg Ebel recently held an earnings call and reviewed the company’s first quarter results.
With “sustainability at the core, Enbridge is “committed to meeting the needs of our customers,” Ebel said.

To that end, WhiteWater Midstream, I Squared Capital, MPLX LP and Enbridge agreed in March to combine the Whistler pipeline already in operation and the Rio Bravo pipeline project, which would enter service in 2026, in a new joint venture (JV). The JV also includes Waha Natural Gas Storage and the ADCC Pipeline, which is expected to come into service in the third quarter.
The formation of the Enbridge WhiteWater MPLX JV, would allow the midstreamer to establish a natural gas footprint in the Permian Basin. The transaction extends Enbridge’s access to Gulf Coast liquefied natural gas terminals, adding a connection to Cheniere Energy Inc.’s Corpus Christi terminal.
“The portfolio of assets is highly contracted and backed by predominantly investment grade counterparties, which aligns perfectly with our low-risk commercial model,” Ebel said.
Beyond that, the system has embedded future growth opportunities that would support growing LNG export volumes.
Prices And Prospects
Egress is tight, and additional capacity is needed out of Waha to move natural gas to demand areas, as evidenced by natural gas prices being hammered by a flood of supply and the inability to move it out of the region.
Prices at the West Texas regional benchmark Waha hub notched a 39.5-cent gain Wednesday that brought the average to 50.0 cents/MMBtu, NGI data show. Prices had languished in the negative since March, falling below negative $4.00 earlier this month.
“We see right now, obviously, Rio Bravo, with our contribution there, will be a new build-out to support that LNG, so that will eventually have an opportunity to take incremental gas out of the Permian,” Enbridge’s Cynthia Hansen, president of Gas Transmission & Midstream (GTM) said.
Hansen said there would be additional brownfield and greenfield growth opportunities there.
Meanwhile, the company is progressing the Tennessee Ridgeline Expansion, which would deliver natural gas to the Tennessee Valley Authority’s proposed natural gas combined-cycle plant. The project reached a final investment decision, and construction is expected to begin in 2025 with an in-service date at the end of the year.
In addition, Enbridge made strides in growing its natural gas utilities business unit, closing the Enbridge Gas Ohio acquisition in March.
