Archive buildings are not usually exciting, but when I was in Hereford, UK, last year, I got very excited about a building designed by Archetype with engineering by Nick Grant and Alan Clarke. Most archive buildings have complex mechanical systems pumping air to keep temperature and humidity constant, but as Nick Grant notes, “The more complexity you have, the more chance there is of unforeseen effects and gremlins." So they designed it to the #passivhaus standard and let the paper inside do the work as a giant thermal buffer, and eliminated all the complex stuff. We did a Zero Ambitions podcast episode with Nick and Alan and I promise, it is exciting. https://lnkd.in/g_B37a2U

It's only four episodes, brilliantly and effectively articulating the interconnectedness and interdependence of all life on our planet: how species are or are not coping, the mass effect that has had and is having ... as well as where and how these things are being addressed and where we might want to be actively aware. Four episodes. Cate Blanchett. Time well spent. We have only One Planet. KO

A "consumer-first" mind-set and "hypothesis-driven" Product Manager to make the world better for all!
<Finished reading: Survival of the Friendliest> Foxes with a sense of intimacy evolved into dogs through coexistence with humans, and the dogs that have survived to this day have all used intimacy as the most important element of their survival instinct. Similarly, this book explains that the biggest factor that allowed humans to be the only surviving species, surpassing Neanderthals who were bigger, stronger, and smarter than us, was not survival of the fittest, but intimacy (interaction and communication with people). The author names this the self-domestication theory, arguing that unlike other animals and humans, we have been able to continuously evolve within our species through intimacy, forming group collectives through intimacy, interaction, and communication. This has allowed us to settle and prosper more stably than larger and stronger animals and humans through the power and intelligence of cooperation (collective intelligence) rather than individual strength and intelligence, especially through innovations like projectile weapons.
