There have been several near-miss aviation incidents this year, including some that involved apparent controller mistakes and that could have been catastrophic, according to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). One of the really fun - and challenging - parts of moving in the Seattle market is the #WashingtonStateFerries system. We regularly put moving trucks on these ferries, but the challenge lies in accurately predicting the time and resources required to streamline the moving process involving a ferry. Here are a few tricks to save money on a move like this: 1. Take as few trips as possible: If you can, keep it to one truck's worth of items. Even if that means we're only moving the big stuff, the cost savings of one truck vs. two trucks are significant. 2. Make your move on a weekday: Especially for the ferries involving the San Juan Islands or Whidbey Island, waiting time for a weekend sailing vs. a weekday saidling can be tremedous. 3. Split the move into two days: To avoid costly overtime, plan to load items on one day and deliver the next. This might be a requirement depending on the size of your move, but it's best to plan for this. 🚧✈️ Malpensa Airport Strike: Operations Included 🚧✈️ Current events at Malpensa Airport (MXP) are impacting operations, due to a strike affecting the Airport Handling Services at the Alha and MLE warehouses. Despite ongoing efforts for improvement through dialogue and technology upgrades, challenges continue, leading to a substantial operational impact with around 75% of flight traffic at MXP facing cancellations. The AL COBAS union has also initiated an overtime strike from February 9th to 18th, which may lead to abstention from work during extraordinary shifts. This is part of broader strikes addressing various issues, including opposition to service liberalization and privatization, demands for better working conditions, wage increases, holiday entitlements, safer work environments, and better parking provisions. These disruptions, including significant ones at Frankfurt Airport, highlight the need for continued dialogue and solutions among all involved parties. Travelers and stakeholders should be prepared for possible longer waiting times for Milan's underground and surface lines, as well as for the Como funicular service, during this period. Efforts to address these challenges and reduce their impact on operations are ongoing, with calls for action from city officials and airport management. Not many compare healthcare quality and safety to airline standards these days, and events last Friday probably convinced skeptics further as to why they are fundamentally different beyond surface comparisons: Patients received care while flights cancelled or delayed. Clinicians worked overtime and diligently to provide necessary care. The intense emotional investment in patient well-being doesn't easily translate to other industries. This isn't to diminish flight crews—they would show similar dedication if roles were reversed, but they operate in a different sector. Clinicians engage in high-stakes efforts to prevent safety issues in extreme situations, usually ensuring quality and success. Unlike flight crews who can opt out if conditions aren't ideal, clinicians are always on duty.
