Taking discoveries down the deployment track requires an unbreakable human chain linking all of the skills necessary for the journey. The strength of that chain is not however is not just in the diversity of skills it is in how they are integrated through a collegial and collaborative approach that engenders trust in each other. Translation through connectivity ! I will share some thoughts on how this might be achieved in the modern era of research.

Today, I got to display my case study at the 38th Annual ATSNJ conference. This was an injury I witnessed while covering my very first football game last fall. The glenohumeral joint is among the most common dislocated joint. An anterior glenohumeral dislocation occurs when the shoulder is excessively abducted and externally rotated; leaving the joint at risk for injury. Athletic trainers are likely to be the first to come in contact with an athlete experiencing a shoulder dislocation. The athlete may experience extreme pain, or in a rare case, no pain at all. Therefore, the ATC should be educated on mechanisms of injury and reduction techniques. Making the decision to reduce on-site relies on a multitude of factors. Supervising physicians must have a protocol stating the athletic trainer’s role with regards to a joint dislocation reduction. If a physician and the athletic trainer are both on site, the physician determines who performs the reduction and which technique will be used. Consultation between ATC and physician protects the athletic trainer, but more importantly, the athlete.
