Degree vs Skill It was a long journey starting from class 1 and burning midnight oil to get a worthwhile grade in class X to be able to pursue the dream of parents or self or something in between. Could be jolted and pushed into something never wanted while others got a better sailing. Years later had a degree of some sort and held it tightly as if it would be blown away by the wind which of course it did but wind of different kind. Pillar to post and no job and when got one just to hang on to it was a dismal salary and working environment good enough to make the effort of attaining a degree regretful. But all the class fellows didnt reach the university and fate took them to different cities, countries and professions. Academically weaker pursued to learn some skills, money making skills and did well, Got hired a civil engineer and was supported by a hoarde of downstream skill and each was exceptionally good at his work, he could find out geometrical solutions when he had no formal education, would calculate the structure load without academic support and best of all was earning more than the salary which most the entry level So degree or skill set? what is ROI of degree in how many years of work would you recover the cost of just the university

UESI has new student opportunities for the 2025 #PipelinesConference available! The Pipelines Student Scholarship provides the opportunity for graduate AND undergraduate students to attend the conference and meet with industry professionals with a wide range of experiences. The scholarship covers registration to the Pipelines Conference and an $800 travel stipend. The Pipelines Student Competition is intended for undergraduate students who are interested in pipelines and utilities and would like to learn more, in addition to those who have already decided to pursue this field. I’VE BEEN IN MY HEAD LATELY‼️ I love quiet time and lately I’ve been thinking about my next path. See, I’m almost finish with college and thinking what’s my next move. 👷🏽♀️Do I continue to an HND? 👷🏽♀️ Should I stop college altogether? 👷🏽♀️Should I take short courses? 🤔 Maybe, just maybe I should use my Bachelors Degree in Business Management to do a MSc in Surveying. See, it will take just 2 years part time to do the Masters compared to going through another 4 years for another Bachelors part-time. Whilst I’ve spent the last 2 years doing an HNC in #construction, I believe it’s given me the foundation that I needed for my next journey. Right now I'm just gathering information about a MSc in Surveying so I've reached out to a University for more information. The programme seems to cover most of the topics I'm covering in the HNC. I also look forward to diving in NEC and JCT contracts in my #constructionlaw module this term. I stayed in the #construction programme instead of switching to a #civilengineering programme because I wanted to have options as I am still trying to figure it all out. Although, I am big on surrendering and going in the direction where life takes me. I know what you're thinking, too much school. Unfortunately, I have not had the privilege of being just given opportunity. All of my opportunities have come from very hard work, having extensive knowledge, going over and beyond and being well over qualified like others. One of my clients this week was telling me - ''I can't believe I am a qualified electrician but I don't know this" She felt so disheartened, thinking that her whole apprenticeship meant nothing if she didn't know these things. But it made sense to me, she had never worked on a mine site before so of course she didn't know specifics about mining equipment! So we changed things up, instead of - ''I can't believe I am a qualified electrician but I don't know this" We changed it to - "I am a qualified electrician AND I don't know this" The new statement leaves it as a fact, it is natural, not good or bad but from this factual place she can learn, she doesn't follow it with things like 'I'm not good enough" She can go into thoughts like 'I need to ask this person' or 'I need to look it up' She can take action from this place!
