According to the recent release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, last month saw the addition of 199K new jobs and a dip in unemployment. This latest report indicates a still-robust labor market with both Manufacturing and Life sciences emerging as top performers. Manufacturing, in particular, saw a significant boost - likely due to an increase of 30,000 jobs in motor vehicles and parts as workers returned from a strike. The amount of jobs added surpassed analyst expectations of 160k-180k job additions predicted. The unemployment rate also edged down to 3.7%. The employment report suggests that financial market expectations that the Federal Reserve could pivot to cutting rates as soon as the first quarter of 2024 were premature. With organizations focusing on digital transformation in 2024, the need for workers with STEM skillsets is still high.
