Earlier this week, Texas announced it purged ~1 million people from its rolls since 2021. Alice Clapman talked to the @TexasTribune about the possible effects of that purge on alleged noncitizens, naturalized citizens or people who made simple mistakes https://lnkd.in/dBYzftmD

Our new fact sheet on why the disinformation about immigrants and voting is really a voter suppression tactic is out! Please share with your networks! https://lnkd.in/eeKnuTgC: American elections are generally secure, soundly administered, and safe. Every state has legal checks and balances that ensure that only citizens vote in our federal elections. Eighty-one percent—8-in-10—Latinos in the U.S. are citizens and therefore eligible voters. In fact, disinformation alleging our election process lacks safeguards to ensure fair and accurate outcomes is just a way to justify restrictions that impact the ability of millions to exercise their right to vote. Please also uplift this terrific debunker from the bipartisan National Task Force on Election Crises, on which I represent UnidosUS:

If you build it, will they vote? Cities with noncitizen voting struggle to boost turnout. The District of Columbia is preparing for the country’s biggest experiment yet with noncitizen voting, which has been on the books for nearly a year and will go live in its first election in 2024. As of mid-December, the city said, three people registered — all showing up in person. Officials hope for more interest when online registration opens to noncitizens this year. Jurisdictions across the country are testing the waters for allowing noncitizens, including illegal immigrants in many... https://lnkd.in/dKRKHf-Q

Sigh NPR. These liberal outlets are so dishonest. This is the same game they played with incarceration opining that 50% of the incarcerated were for drug crimes, failing to mention and only referring to federal data. Meanwhile, with respect to elections, state and local elections are allowing illegals to vote, Federal law doesn’t stop states or municipalities from granting noncitizens the right to vote in local races and a handful have, including 11 towns in Maryland and two in Vermont with more to come including NY. The influx of illegals is about preserving electoral votes in the Blue States that are losing population. The U.S. Census counts illegals. American citizens are abandoning Blue States like New York and California and illegals are making up that loss in population. This allows those states to keep their electoral votes and congressional seats. https://lnkd.in/dF2-yvwT https://lnkd.in/d4KnwiCy

Muslim and Arab American voters are shaping up as a potential weakness for Kamala Harris. ***** A late August poll conducted by the Council on American-Islamic Relations advocacy group showed that in Michigan, home to a large Arab American community, 40 per cent of Muslim voters backed the Green Party’s Stein. Republican candidate Donald Trump got 18 per cent, with Harris, who is President Joe Biden’s vice president, trailing at 12 per cent. ***** https://lnkd.in/dSH6rMqG Michigan especially has a sizeable Arab-American population, a majority of whom support either Jill Stein or Donald Trump. Is it enough for Donald Trump to win in Michigan? Possibly. With Hamtramck’s mayor flirting with endorsing Donald Trump, that possibility cannot be ruled out.

A Gaza Effect on US Presidential Elections? Michigan is one of the half a dozen battleground states that are widely expected to determine the outcome of the US elections. Michigan also happens to be home to a sizeable Arab Americans population, estimated at some 390,000. Mostly originating from the Levant (Syria, Lebanon, Palestine), Michigan’s Arab Americans concentrate in the southeastern parts of the state. Dearborn (about 100,000, in the Detroit Metro Area) is often regarded as the ‘capital’ of Arab Americans, hosting the largest mosque in North America. Traditionally, Arab Americans have been strong supporters of the Democratic party, and for many years they favored Democrats over Republicans by a wide margin (nearly two to one). In November 2020, in Dearborn Biden trounced Trump by no less than 50 percentage points (74% vs 24%). Things have changed dramatically in recent times and the Biden Administration’s handling of the crisis in Gaza has eroded Arab Americans’ support for the Democratic party. A recent survey (https://lnkd.in/diaG3wkw) suggests that Trump and Harris are basically tied among Arab Americans, at 42%-41%. An early sign of disaffection emerged during the Democratic primary process, when several Arab American leaders launched a campaign to vote ‘uncommitted’. This was particularly the case of Michigan’s Democratic primary, as there were about 100,000 'uncommitted' votes (13% of the total), with a fivefold increase over the 2020 primary cycle (even though turnout in 2020 was much higher). In Dearborn, the uncommitted vote won 57% support while Biden received 40%. These uncommitted Democratic primary voters might well play a crucial role in determining the results of elections in the Wolverine State. Back in November 2020 Biden won the state with a margin of 154,000 votes. If all the 100,000 uncommitted democratic voters were to stay home on elections day, ceteris paribus, the Democratic margin would decline to just 50,000. The problem for the Democrats is that the ceteris paribus assumption appears to be unrealistic, and indeed there are indications are that Republicans are gaining ground in Michigan across various geographies and population groups. Worse still, if half of the uncommitted primary voters were to stay home and the other half were to vote for Trump (possibly, holding their nose), the Democratic margin would be completely wiped out. No wonder that Harris, in a frantic attempt to salvage the situation, lately has been very active in reviving support among Arab Americans (https://lnkd.in/dNv-e23p)

Free and fair elections are required for the survival of a government that is of, by, and for the people; and election integrity is the expectation of all US citizens. California Governor Newsom just signed a bill that bans municipalities from passing laws requiring photo ID to vote, with state officials declaring that requiring a photo ID imposes “unnecessary obstacles to voter participation and disproportionately burdens low-income voters, voters of color, young or elderly voters, and people with disabilities.” Among other things a photo ID is required to purchase alcohol, open a bank account, apply for food stamps, welfare, Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security; to rent/buy a house, rent a car, fly on an airplane, to get married, purchase a gun, adopt a pet, for a hunting/fishing license; to rent a hotel room, buy a cell phone, pick up prescription medications; to donate blood, purchase tobacco, and to apply for unemployment benefits. Who are these people that do none of those things but who want to vote? According to some research, 28 states do not require proof of citizenship to vote in a general election. Collectively they are accountable for 289 electoral votes (270 wins a Presidential election). 16 states still allow ballot harvesting. When citizens begin to question whether their right to vote really counts they stop participating. And, when that happens the enemies of democracy win. Of course I don't have all the details from every state, municipality, or precinct. Therefore, I encourage everyone to do their own research. Get involved in ensuring our elections are safe, fair, and secure. Reach out to your local officials and elected representatives and voice your concerns. Research your choices and vote! #electionintegrity #California #Newsom #musk #voterid #photoid #electorialvote #states #ballotharvesting #democraticrepublic #election #citizenship #vote

An estimated 4.6 million Americans are barred from voting due to a felony conviction. Three out of four people disenfranchised are living in their communities, having fully completed their sentences or remaining supervised while on probation or parole. One in 19 African Americans of voting age is disenfranchised, a rate 3.5 times that of non-African Americans. Among the adult African American population, 5.3 percent is disenfranchised compared to 1.5 percent of the adult non-African American population. In Kansas, it doesn't have to be this way: https://lnkd.in/gXjVNRbD
