Annals of Civic Duty ~ Having performed our civic duty -- the most sacred act as far as our lives are concerned -- we photographed ourselves at the entrance of our early voting site. Last, but not least, what attracted us to these United States is not money, material wealth, and luxury, but the freedom to live as we wished, and not being ruled by a theocrat, oligarch, plutocrat, or autocrat. P.s.: The only oath we have taken is to the very humanly drafted Constitution of the United States by Enlightenment Thinkers -- inspired by the Ancient Greeks and the Native American Haudenosaunee Confederacy -- with all its strengths and weaknesses, where the latter can always be amended with the passage of time to remove inequities. We hope the Great gift of Democracy -- along with the empirical scientific method -- invented by the Ancient Greeks in its pre-modern form will continue to serve us and our descendants in the years to come.

I feel the same as Gould. And I wondered 7 months ago what this conflict is about. Fortunately, I trusted one of my sources, the Upstream podcast (“relearn everything you thought you knew about economics”, with co-hosts Della Duncan & Robby Ramon) which has a series of conversations on Palestine and Israel that unpacked the story with plenty of evidence for me. https://lnkd.in/eDhTThMM For example, in light of rep. Gould’s speech, in episode / part 2, dated Nov. 23, 2023, guest Noura Erakat, who wrote Justice For Some, shared how Palestinians have been arguing their case for the human right of self determination in international court since the early 1920’s when violent settlements by Israeli Zionists began to accelerate in northern areas of Palestine, or what’s been called Israel since the 1948 “Nakba” (catastrophe). Palestinian legal team presented enough evidence for the jury to find the invading Zionists guilty and “win” their case, but the court ordered sentencing of, and retributions by Zionists were ignored by the international community and League of Justice, and the invasions countries with impunity. Sound familiar? She calls it collusion by “First World” Western powers against “Third World” people in places like Africa and Middle East who at the time didn’t have their own states to defend, due to widespread imperialism’s mandate system of control (occupation) for continued exploitation of people and extraction of resources and wealth. This was before fossil fuels took off as the main energy source and driver of economic wealth and military power building in the First World, now known as the Global North countries at the cohersive impoverishment of the Third World countries, now know as the Global South. This assumes one has a “country” but in the case of Palestine, Erakat explains, they’ve never been recognized legally as having a country and the sovereignty of self determination that come with statehood. So now any organized resistance in self defense of Palestinians is referred to as “terrorism”, go figure. For additional evidence of Global N-S, predator-prey relationships (ie. economic conquest) please reference anthropologist & ecological economist Jason Hickel’s 2017 book, The Divide: Global Inequality from Conquest to Free Markets. Its clarity will be like wearing glasses for the first time. Today the United Nations General Assembly still ignores International Court of Justice decisions on human rights violations cases against Palestinian people and places, but now oil & gas reserves are valued at $524 billion based on the 2019 UNCTAD report.
