This video is worth watching not only by OR staff but also by hospital administrations. It shows a lot of alternatives to current practices towards a green hospital, beginnig with reusable surgical gowns and ending with hybrid solutions for complex instruments instead of only single-use technologies. Especially high tech departments have to look for more rationally and ecologically rather than industrially driven solutions. Why must for example a pressure gauge be an integral part of a single-use pressure syringe for vascular interventions instead of being detachable and reusable? The greenhouse emissions of hospitals worlwide are twice as much as those of Germany. It is our job as doctors to look for rational reductions and this video shows a lot of options without a risk of worsening the quality of care.
