Wetlands are also one of the key habitats of Türkiye. As a stakeholder of the Ramsar Convention, to which 170 countries are parties, Türkiye has declared 14 important wetlands as Ramsar sites, aiming to protect them at international level. Global wildlife populations have plummeted by an alarming 73% over the past 50 years. Freshwater populations have suffered the most severe losses, with an 85% decline, followed by terrestrial species, which have decreased by 69%. Marine populations fared slightly better but still recorded a significant 56% drop. Seems like a big red flag to me.
