Need something to keep you active during a Chicago winter? How about doing something that you can then tell all your friends about - so they'll stop talking behind your back and tell you to your face that you're crazy. Hustle Chicago (f/k/a "Hustle up the Hancock" - same building, different name) is the last Sunday in February, and benefits the clean air and healthy lung efforts of the Respiratory Health Association. What, exactly, is the event? Well... you start at the ground level and take the stairs all the way to the observation level - a mere 1,030 feet above (1,632 steps, for those keeping track). Some people look at it as a bucket-list thing... for me, with the exception of 2022 and 2023, it's been an every-year-since-2012 thing. Trust me, it sounds nuts, but it's no more taxing than running a 5k at a decent pace. It's also a million times more rewarding - it's hard to describe the feeling of emerging from the stairwell on the observation deck, bathed in sunshine after 94 floors of fluorescent lighting, surrounded by folks cheering you on, and seeing the entire city spreading out well below. Tomorrow, Friday, January 24th, is the last day to join a team. Every decision could mean the difference between despair and hope. I’ve seen resilience in patients, dedication in teams, and the undeniable power of care and compassion. But here’s the question I keep asking myself: Are we doing enough for those who trust us with their lives? In this fast-paced world, let’s pause and reflect.
